Excellent derailleur - perhaps the most worthwhile upgrade from 6800
TL;DR: Excellent product, a real improvement over the previous version.I bought this to replace a 6800 RD that I snapped off of my bike. I used to have a road link to allow for bigger cassettes without any problems. This version has a "road link" included in it.Installation is a bit different than the previous versions: First, the shift cable fastener thingy feels much more sturdy and routes the excess shift cabling neatly behind the derailleur, so it doesn't stick out anymore. It has much less chance of catching something and fraying.Another change is the indexing knob - it has this tiny lock that you need to actuate in order to turn around. Indexing was a breeze - took literally five minutes and now shifting is flawless on an 11-32 cassette. I need to try it with my 11-40 but watching some youtube videos it can tackle it no problem. This is maybe the most worthwhile upgrade from 6800, is completely backwards compatible. This is the first time a Shimano road derailleur works flawlessly with up to 11-40.

Great Product Highest Quality
You can not beat the quality in design and engineering with SHIMANO. Even their lower cost items are of exceptional quality. I upgraded from the SHIMANO Ultegra Short-Cage Rear Derailleur to the Mid-Cage. This allowed me to increase the size of my rear cassette from 11-28 to 11-34. I have even gone to a Shram 11-36 and love the performance.

So far so good.
We've got steep hills around here and I'm not getting any younger, so I decided to replace my old Shimano 105 derailleur (5800 style, from 2017) and 11-32 cassette with this derailleur and a Shimano 11-40 cassette. The new derailleur is rated for a max. 11-34 cassette, but sources I read indicated that it easily handles the 11-40.I also installed a new HG-701 (Ultegra) chain, using the Park Tool video to cut the chain at an appropriate size. I kept the old 105 brake/shifter levers. It was straightforward to install the derailleur from YouTube videos, and it works pretty well. There are some slightly slower upshifts (to smaller cogs) in certain places, and one downshift that is occasionally clumsy, but generally it's at least as good as the old 105 derailleur, and handles a much larger range of gearing. It may be that fine tuning by an expert could improve the shifting.

It's a Shimano
Very nice short cage derailleur. The high quality and dependability you'd expect from Shimano. Nice crisp shifts through the 11-speed range. After all, it's a Shimano.

Works great!
Very easy bolt-on, slightly finicky initial alignment setup....but it worked GREAT with my 6800 shifters on a 42 mile hilly, windy ride, so there was LOTS of shifting. Didn't miss even one, and it passed the ultimate test, it crosschained without complaint on the 34, and was even quieter than my 32 tooth setup while doing it!! And of course, the bailout gear was welcome climbing into a stiff wind. Two thumbs up on this one!Hot tip: Have an extra shifer cable on hand BEFORE you install, just in case you bugger up the end of your original cable, or it should end up an inch too short. Don't ask how I know this.
