This is an important contribution to the world of ceramics. It is singularly focused on the mystery of atomic interaction of your clay and glaze materials, and will assist you understanding why, for example, specific temperatures do specific things to your work. You're going to love this book. And appreciate your own work all the more. If I taught ceramics at a University I would use this text for a special class.

This book is approachable, interesting, and gives a good grounding It would certainly help an unscientific potter to better understand their materials and the transformations we require of them.I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Very in-depth and well written book. Easy to read for potters who really want to know what is going on with their clay and glazes. This is really the only way to understand everything.

I purchased this book expecting a bit more technical information. Instead, this book is more for the absolute beginner with no background in chemistry. The book is expensive for the amount of content covered. Other books on the market cover double the amount of information but are unfortunately out of print. I guess I was expecting a more updated version of a classic like Hutchinson Cuff's out of print book. But instead this is the watered down version with minimal discussion of advances in science since 1996!Overall: This is a good enough overview for the absolute beginner who needs to be spoon fed all of the basic information.
