Smith's 50582 Axe and Machete Sharpener

Q: Does this sharpener eat up the blade? Looks like it will get it sharp...but also shave down the blade metal over time.

This product uses Tungsten Carbide Sharpening Blades to sharpen the cutting edge. These carbide blades remove metal very aggressively, so yes, they will shave down the blade metal with frequent use. The key is to get your cutting edge sharp and maintain the sharpness by touching up the edge with just a couple strokes of this sharpener before or after every use. This will avoid you having to aggressively sharpen a very dull blade with multiple strokes of the sharpener numerous times.

Q: Can it sharpen a machete

Absolutely. It was designed to sharpen both machetes and axes. We have a YouTube video about it. I suggest you search hearthworld smith's axe sharpener.

Q: Anyone use this on a fiskars x27 or similar?

This item works great on Fiskars axes as well as their machetes. I have sharpened 3 different sized axes and 2 machetes. This tool is easy to use and the results are wonderful.
