Olympus E-PL1 Compact System Camera - Black (14-42mm Black Lens Kit)

i have always wanted a PEN series camera since i saw the very first model that olympus released but up until now had resisted buying one. At the current price i finally justified splashing out on an epl1 to myself and i am really glad i did. First of all, i love the aesthetics of it! such a nice object to hold and use once you have got used to the menu system,although if you have had an olympus before it is no problem to find all the functionality you need and a bit more. image quality - what can i say,for this style of camera and at this price level it is second to none. i own too many cameras to mention,including 2 dslrs and this is a match for them all picture wise. incidentally,i have just tried it with my yongnuo flash and it works perfectly with that too,as well as flash triggers etc raw files look great through photomatix.... I LOVE MY EPL1!!!!

So, you don't want backache (DLSR) you don't want pocket sized limited-performers (compact cameras) this is a good choice! This is my 5th camera since the digital era, and I have the feeling I will not need to upgrade in the near future: - One of the cameras got some dust inside the lens, so all the pictures have small dots! I still have the camera, (sony) it works and all but the pics are dirty...something that willnot happens with this one, because you can reove the lens and clean the sensor any time - I have bought an adapter ring, so I can use old lenses, and the possibilities are endless now, and the results still amazes me everyday. - The images you can take (just on auto mode) are so nice, and the colors are awesome too, this is the 1st time I got a camera that most of the pictures do not need to be retouched on photoshop afterwards ONly low point:- the zoom on the standard lens is quite limited, the one I had on my previous camera (a compact one) had twice as much reach...

If you're looking for a camera that looks nice and takes excellent quality photographs, then this is the one for you. Easy to use and well equipped I'm very happy with it. The only slight issue is that there is no viewfinder so getting the focus right, particularly in bright light can be a challenge. The aperture settings also do not go that low, so if you want a photograph with a dramatic difference between what is in focus and what is not, you can't really get that much of a blur. However it is a great camera and I am very happy with it.

This camera is well specified at a real bargain price! As a very experienced film photographer and long time digital user I am well placed to recommend this for all types of use and it does ' what it says in the tin.' The performance is equal to a digital single lens reflex camera and is more convenient at half the size.

I bought one of these cameras for my dad who has developed an interest for photography in his retirement and he was very pleased with it. This compact system camera is excellent, giving the quality of an entry level SLR without the bulk. My dad is not the most technical person but he took to this very quickly and has been almost inseparable from it since Xmas.

Ordered this with some trepidation given the considerable hype and widespread advertising. Could it live up to what was being claimed? Well it does. All members of our family have been using it and have found it easy to use and have got different types of pictures - ranging from arty to practical. Very easy to understand controls (don't really need anything more than the instructions provided). A success.

I finally made up my mind to buy this camera after many weeks of research and doubts. My first impression when the package arrived was surprise at the weight of the box as I was expecting a flimsy point and shoot dslr wannabe. Opening the box and finding a solid looking camera and lens was again a surprise. I immediately concluded I had made a good decision to buy the camera. Talk about love at first sight! I have taken a lot of pictures since and I am very impressed at the quality of photographs. I highly recommend this camera for all categories of photographers.

The camera has a nice retro look and is fairly light weight and easy to use. It comes with a non-attached lens cap, which is easy to lose, but one with a string can be bought for about £3.

Enthousiasmé par la pub, au final je trouve l'appareil excessivement lent et le logiciel joint qui s'appelle IB pas du tout intuitif. Prenons un exemple, le panorama. Si on sélectionne ce mode, le logiciel IB doit s'arranger pour reconstituer votre photo. Manque de bol, je photographie en lévogyre (de gauche à droite) et lui ne sait reconstituer que de droite à gauche. Si vous joignez le site olympus, à part pour la pub ils ne connaissent pas le français et vous n'aurez pas de réponse. Pour le reste, le focus est très lent et la batterie ne tient pas. Les accessoires sont très chers, notamment le viseur numérique à ajouter, car il n'y en a pas d'optique pour vous sauver du soleil (bien qu'on voit un cache, mais ce n'est pas un viseur). Pour ce qui est des images, sympa tout de même le règlage intelligent. mais ensuite quand on récupère l'image, on peut ajouter d'autres effets. Où est l'intérêt et à quoi sert un mode RAW pour un débutant? Pour moi, c'est un produit mal pensé et à bannir. Pour le reste, le modèle PL1 me semble mieux , car au moins il a un peu plus de gueule que n'a pas ce modèle.

Pas loin d'une semaine de tests acharnés sur cet appareil dont les résultats semblent à la hauteur et assez surprenants. Ergonomie de menu "MENU" (à côté du viseur) un peu hasardeuse... Pas vraiment évidente. Le menu standard (dans le joystick) lui est sans surprise et tout à fait évident. Un appareil bien en main. Le viseur externe est au top. Pour le preneur de son que je suis, très beau son de déclenchement (ça compte). Mode d'emploi papier en Français mais totalement nul ! Ancien photographe pro j'ai du mal à m'y retrouver, alors j'imagine un tout nouveau dans le domaine ? L'intérêt de ce genre d'appareil est sa réponse et son faible bruit en basse lumière. D'excellents résultats en particulier en noir et blanc mais pas systématiques. J'ai besoin qu'ils le soient. D'ici une centaine de photos, je devrais maîtriser l'outil. En mode "Automatique", c'est vraiment l'outil pour amateur peu averti. Même le menu standard leu est destiné. Pas de terme du métier comme "profondeur de champ" mais "net" ou "pas net" ! Vous voyez le genre ? Mais c'est finalement peut être une bonne chose. Dans tous les autres modes (P, A, S, M etc...) on se retrouve en pays de connaissance mais moins évident pour les amateurs très amateurs. Quand au fait qu'on m'ait livré un boîtier argent en lieu et place d'un boîtier noir, c'est pas top... Et puis le boîtier blanc tarde à la livraison, ce qui n'est pas vraiment top non plus... Pierre

Ich komme von den Olympus-FT-DSLR (E-520; E-30), habe noch eine PEN der 3.Generation (E-PL3) und brauchte noch eine preiswerte PEN für meine FT Objektive (speziell: 2,8/25 mm, 4,0-5,6/40-150) als Ergänzung. Insbesondere gebraucht bekommt man die E-PL1 hier sehr günstig. Eine Super Systemkamera die sehr gut mit dem MFF-2 Adapter und meinen FT Objektiven harmoniert. Insbesondere durch das kräftige Gehäuse mit der praktischen Griffwulst. Sie hat eine tolle Feinzeichnung und eine fantastische Auflösung die keinen Vergleich mit ausgewachsenen DSLR scheuen braucht. Vor allem mit dem genialem Zuiko FT 2,0/50 mm Makro und MFT 1,8/45 mm kann sie zeigen was sie drauf hat. Auch das Rauschverhalten und der Dynamikumfang reichen mehr als aus. Erstaunlich war für mich, dass der AF mit dem sensationellem MFT Oly Objektiv 1,8/45 mm und mit dem MFT Oly 3,5-5,6/14-42 mm II-R genauso schnell ist wie an meiner E-PL3. Die FT Objektive brauchen schon etwas länger, sind aber wesentlich schneller als meine FT DSLR im Live-View Kontrast-AF. Damit kann ich mein bevorzugtes Standard-Bildformat 16:9 (zur Betrachtung am Flachbildschirm)wesentlich einfacher und schneller umsetzen als mit meinen Oly-DSLR. Bildvorschau und Belichtung sind bei der E-PL1 sehr gut, reichen aber noch nicht an die Klasse der E-PL3 heran. Dafür hat die PL1 noch einen integrierten Blitz, den ich mir auch für die PL3 gewünscht hätte. Alle anderen Informationen sind schon ausreichend beschrieben worden. Dicke Empfehlung von mir für alle, die eine preiswerte und sehr gute Zweit-, Dritt- oder Viertkamera brauchen. Ich mag es halt nicht, 5 mal am Tag das Objektiv zu wechseln. Dafür habe ich jetzt 4 fantastische Olympus FT/MFT Kameras, jede mit besonderen Stärken und Eigenschaften. Dazu meine 7 Oly Zuiko Objektive und bin für alle Situationen gerüstet. A.Z. Nachtrag Juli 2012: Als absolute Objektiv-Empfehlung habe ich das Sigma MFT 2,8/19 mm getestet. Dies ist ein fantastisches Immerdrauf-Weitwinkel-Objektiv (38 mm KB) mit sehr guten Abbildungsleistungen. Der AF ist sehr schnell und sehr leise (also auch sehr gut für Videos geeignet), mit Offenblende schon gut zu gebrauchen und leicht abgeblendet richtig scharf (mit tollen Kontrastwerten). Als Lieferumfang gehört serienmäßig eine gepolsterte Objektivtasche, Metallbajonett, eine Streulichtblende und stabile Objektivdeckel (Vor-und Rückseite). Für den Preis fast unglaublich und meiner Meinung nach praxistauglicher als das Pana MFT 1,7/20 mm (hat eine sehr geringe Tiefenschärfe bei Offenblende, sehr lauter und langsamerer AF). Mit den sehr guten Abbildungsleistungen kann man das Sigma mit dem Oly FT 2,8/25 mm vergleichen und ich sehe auch keine nennenswerten Unterschiede zum Pana, das ich auch mal für ein paar Stunden testen konnte. Sollte man unbedingt haben. A.Z.

Ich habe mir die Olypmus PEN E-PL1 als Zweitkamera gekauft, da ich nicht immer Lust habe meine große Cannon Spiegelreflex mitzuschleppen. Ich war also auf der Suche nach einer kompakten Kamera, die Wechseloptik hat und professionelles Bildmaterial liefern kann. Der Preis für die kleine Olympus E-PL1 ist da sehr verlockend. Um es kurz zu machen, die Kamera liefert ohne Frage gute Bildergebnisse. Die Menüführung und Einstellungsoptionen sind aber fummelig, da die Kamera nicht wie das größere Model über ein Drehrad verfügt und mache Buttons doppelt belegt sind. Die Buttons sind auch nicht optimal angeordnet, so dass man sich immer wieder verklickt. Bei meiner Canon, brauchte ich bisher kaum in die Bedienungsanleitung zu sehen, da erklärt sich wirklich alles von selbst. Bei der Olympus hingegen, muss man erst mal die Bedienungsanleitung zur Hand nehmen, bevor man loslegen kann, schade. Ganz großer Nachteil für Mac-User und man merkt es erst wenn man die Kamera schon gekauft hat, es gibt keine Verwaltungssoftware für den Mac dazu. So kann man nur die Bilder von der Kamera nur via USB-Download machen, die Bilder sind dann unsortiert und Hochformate werden nicht gedreht. Das ist wirklich ein absolutes Defizit und Olympus sollte da schnell was nachliefern.

Nun ja, es ist grundsätzlich keine schlechte Kamera. Bei Tageslicht sehen die Fotos recht ordentlich aus, aber wenn es etwas dunkeler wird, wird es auch schwieriger mit dem Autofokus, der dann länger braucht oder garnicht mehr funktioniert. Dementsprechend sehen dann auch die Fotos aus, jedoch ist sie immernoch besser als jede Kompakte, was ich fairer Weise hier noch erwähnen muss. Den Vergleich zur Spiegelreflex muss ich hier nicht machen, wobei sie teilweise diese Fotoqualität erreicht. Dafür ist sie sehr einfach zu bedienen und meiner Meinung nach auch sehr gut für Anfänger geeignet. Mit einem besseren Objektiv sind auch sicherlich bessere Bilder drin. Ich hatte lediglich das EZ-M1442L. Aber letztendlich bin ich zufrieden, was die Hauptsache ist!
