Promise Canyon (A Virgin River Novel, 11)

This is the third, maybe the fourth time I have started with book one and will read all of the books in only a few weeks time. My wife got me started with Virgin River and now I am widowed and finding more comfort and, sadly, pain than I did when she was here with me. We had fifty incredible years together. I shall always miss her. I find the incredible depth of the characters in these books to be such a source of of genuine feelings. Thank you Robyn Carr for the gift of genuine feelings you have given me.

I am looking forward to reading the next book so far ever book has been my favorite book. This is one of many Series that I have read and loved this is my second time rereading this Series.

I LOVE Robyn Carr's work, especially the Virgin River series. And it really IS a series. In most romance lines labeled as such, each book is really a stand alone that just happens to have a common theme: maybe a town or business, or the characters are all friends or family, etc. But in Carr's VR stories, there will be one primary romance, yes; but there will also be other plotlines that can play out over several books. That said, although this book is #11 in the series, it is a good place to start if you've never read her before. There are fewer secondary stories introduced than usual, and the continuation on previous back stories is minimal. Anyway, I enjoyed this book tremendously. There was the usual lovely and loving characterizations, realistic dialogue and general warmth and humor. There was also some new elements, with the Native American and horse whisperer touches. And the lead couple have an interesting chemistry: the hero is starting over, and the heroine really never started at all. Although she appears mature and largely content, she is basically frozen. She made certain life decisions after a traumatic event when she was 13 and never allowed any subsequent changes that would normally evolve from growth and experience. This isn't a secret to those closest to her: both her grandfather and best friend comment on it several times. In the end, she has to choose to grow, to risk security for happiness. Highly recommended.

Promise Canyon by Robyn Carr is the story of vet tech Clay Tahoma, originally from Flagstaff and the Navaho Nation and Lilly Yazhi, a Hopi who is trying to forget her traditional native background. She works for her grandfather ("Yaz") keeping books at his feed store and delivering feed to nearby ranchers and Nate, the local vet where Clay has come to work. Both have baggage. Divorced, Clay has left the Los Angeles area and his beautiful, wealthy ex-wife and the stable where he worked to put distance between himself and her, also to have a suitable place in which to raise his seventeen-year-old son, Gabe, who still lives with Clay's grandparents on the Navaho Nation. Lilly hasn't recovered from a romantic disaster where she was betrayed and abandoned at a much-too-early age. She's spent the intervening years getting an education and putting her heritage behind her, and she's not about to become involved with a drop-dead sexy Navaho. Fate has other plans, however, and both Clay and Lilly feel a huge attraction toward each other. Finding an injured and abandoned horse provides Lilly with a turning point, and she begins to enjoy working with the horses at Nate's, and to realize how much she belongs with them. Meanwhile, in Virgin River, Jack, the owner of the town's only bar and eatery, has been given the task of administrating Hope McCrea's trust, which the recently deceased widow left to the community. As people come out of the woodwork with suggestions on how the funds should be used, Jack finds himself becoming increasingly unpopular as he tries to do what is best for the community as a whole. And Colin, Luke and Aiden Riordan's brother, finds himself in a helicopter accident with dire consequences. Three stories mesh together and bring old and new faces to Virgin River. I love the way Ms. Carr is able to weave the plots together. This is a wonderful book with different storylines, each of them tied to Virgin River and her great cast of characters.

I have enjoyed reading Carr's books for a long time. One of my favorite all-time books of hers is The House on Olive Street first published back in 1999. But the Virgin River series takes me to a new place, a place that I wish was real. I can visualize the town, all my favorite characters and it is such a treat when her new books are published. And I like that Carr recently has been issuing the books closer together, so I don't have to wait a year or two to get the next installment. Her next two books in the series are coming out this month and next. Yeah! I enjoyed Clay and Lilly's story and the background Indian tribal information. My husband is mostly Cherokee and I enjoy modern day romances with Indian protaganists, rather than the "Indian brave capturing the settler woman" bodice ripper type. I enjoyed the horses and their stories, too. I always enjoy reading the latest news of Jack, Mel, Preacher and Paige (I wish there had a been a little more of them this time but oh well - can't please everyone all the time). I think Carr does her side stories very well. She introduced a few more in this book that I am sure we will find her following up on in later books. Her descriptive passages are great. Sexual scenes were a bit more explicit this book (but HOT). Just a warning for those that want or need one. Robyn Carr is one of few authors that when she publishes a book, I buy it. It can be sight unseen, review unread. Carr has never disappointed me and I have read every one of her books.

The thing I live about the Virgin River books is that they include all the town’s people throughout all the books, catching up with everyone.

As soon as I finish one I start the next sad reality is I’ve made it over half way through what’s available and will be so sad when it’s done x Thanks for the beautiful adventure with lots of friendship, heartbreak and redemption :) well worth the read :)

Written in a way that is hard to put down. Excellent characters and as always so well written. Robyn Carr is in my top five authors.

Oh, WOW...I bought the first Part, and In the same moment, I know it was a mistake...because it was toooo good! Now, 10 minutes after I've read the last Page, i bought all the other Parts from "Virgin River" ....... Thank you !!!
