## Overview

Master Flame is a Class 'A' fire retardant liquid that covers 450 square feet per gallon, designed for indoor use on absorbent materials like wood, fabrics, and paper. Tested to NFPA 255, 701 & ASTM E 84 standards, it forms a thermal barrier to prevent flame spread and reduces toxic smoke development. Non-toxic and eco-friendly, it’s easy to apply by spraying or dipping, making it an essential safety upgrade for homes and small projects.

## Description

Master Flame fire retardant treats approximately 450 square feet a gallon, and is perfect for small to medium sized projects and other limited areas that need to be treated for fire protection. Master Flame is a Class 'A' fire retardant, non-toxic, eco-friendly and easy to use on a variety of materials. Master Flame forms a thermal insulation barrier that prevents dangerous flames from spreading. Master Flame also inhibits the development of toxic hydrocarbon smoke. Applications: Use to treat absorbent materials and surfaces such as drapes, curtains, decorations, uniforms, clothing, wood, pre-construction materials, furnishings, carpeting, packing materials, motor home interiors, holiday decorations, storage boxes, and other materials for added safety against fire. Basically, if it can soak into the object, it will help inhibit flames. Organic materials are best. Plastics, Styrofoam, polystyrenes and similar materials are not well protected with Master Flame. Directions: Master Flame is easy to use. Just spray Master Flame on the item or surface being treated. In bulk applications, you may also dip the items and allow to drip dry. In all applications, allow Master Flame to completely penetrate the item or surface. Allow material to dry completely. If you are using Master Flame to fire retard clothing and other fabrics it is recommended that Master Flame be reapplied after each washing; as some of the product's effectiveness will be diminished due to washing.

Review: Flame tested and this product is great. Sprayed with HVLP gun on seat material and wool product. Will not burn even with constant fire by blowtorch.
Review: I bought this to mix with paint to paint my exposed basement posts, beams, and joists. I mixed a full gallon of this with a little less than a gallon of latex paint. I did a couple tests on some scrap boards first, and it didn't work when I first tried it, but I missed the part about waiting 24 hours. Tried it again the next day and board turned a little brown, but would not burn and hardly even smoked. This seems to work exactly as described and is way better than nothing. I used a small foam roller to apply this to the exposed wood in my basement, to give it a nicer finished look, while adding fire protection without having to wrap everything in a bunch of drywall. This product makes the paint super thin and watery, and it drips EVERYWHERE, so I ended up masking things off almost as much as i would have if spraying. Also, because of how thin it is, it takes many many coats to achieve a uniform opaque color. I think I did 5 coats before I couldn't see the old paint colors where some of the wood had been painted decades ago. This product also separates from paint really easily, so you have to keep mixing it throughout your project if using very much. It probably separates as much as 90% after sitting for just an hour, and after being left overnight I could probably pour the Master Flame back into the bottle, leaving the paint behind. I'm glad i found this product as it's saving me from having to wrap things in metal or drywall, and gave me justification for painting the entire basement ceiling (instead of just the areas that were previously painted blue, green, or cream. I used up the first jug and just bought another, I'll probably need a 3rd to finish the entire project, it's an 1100sf basement with 100 year old wood that sucks up the first 2 coats of paint. I took 1 star off for how thin it makes the paint and how quickly it separates. It would be nice if they had a thickening agent you could add or they could get it to bond with the paint.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: My garage has acrylic paint on the walls and ceiling. Can I use this effectively as a topcoat? Or if not, is there an alternate product?**
A: This will not work as a top coat, Master Flame has to be applied prior.

Unfortunately we do not have an effective product for you. Thank you!

**Q: How do you use it on palm tree leafs. Do you have to let them dry out first, and how often do you reapply?**
A: Let the palm leaves dry out, then spray them on both sides. Let dry for 24 hours. Thank you!

**Q: Does this meet flame retardant technical bulletin 133? That's what our town requires for fabric in our school.**
A: It meets the requirements for schools in Virginia Beach, VA according to the Fire Marshall who re-inspected our school after we treated all curtains and bulletin Boards that were fabric covered.

**Q: Can I apply this product directly to eps foam ( expanded polystyrene ) ? and then applied water base paint?**
A: Depends upon what you're trying to do with the EPS. It might adhere, but it probably won't keep the EPS foam from bursting into flames when it gets hot enough to outgas. I have seen requirements to cover structural plastics with Type X gypsum to provide an acceptable level of smoke and flame containment. One EPS product I reviewed had flame spread of 20 and smoke of 100-300, which might actually meet "Class A interior wall and ceiling finish" requirements (UL 723), but only to limited height (e.g., 48 inches), unless also tested under NFPA 253 for flashover. You would need to find a product that is intended for your purpose (e.g., as interior finish), rather than trying to coat a dangerous product with fire retardant.

Did a test on an old piece of wood. It seems to really work. Remember it is a fire retardant not fire proof
