Impressive scooter
I bought myself one and my 10 yo boy another during the week before black Friday. Up until the snow this past week, we had been bundling up and riding all around our neighborhoods and in the city common next door and my oh my, I'm glad I got the ES4's.I have not had a single problem with either scooter. I even bought two spare batteries as there could be a time when we go into Boston or anywhere-really, and having the extra batteries would mean that no matter where we go, we'll be able to get back either to the truck or public transportation but when it comes down to it, even though the scooters are heavy, when they are not powered they can be kicked down the sidewalks or streets. The scooters are fast. My boy is 10 and on Sport mode, he can fly. He always wears a helmet and is a fairly accomplished dirtbike rider and skier so, I don't worry much about him being able to handle both the speed and power, which he has been. Even for me, the power is great. Fast enough on level ground and just enough for climbing steep and long uphills as we live in a neighborhood that is at the top of a series of hills or just one big hill in the city.Battery life has been impressive, but of course, the motors and batteries are new but still, even after a good 16 to 20 mile ride, we have never come home with less than 30% and we are on Sports mode the entire time and not trying to conserve the power at all, never mind that for to get home, we have to go uphill for quite some distance. I also have set the batteries to only charge to 90% and also have a spare battery for the just-in-case-future when the weather gets warmer and we can spend all day, all night riding around. The headlight is a very nice touch as are the lights underneath. The headlight is bright enough for riding in the darkest of nights, no problem. Having the option to have the mostly programmable light show lighting up under the deck of the scooter is a great way to see where the other rider is at night.I'm one that actually likes the electric brake that is the left thumb. My boy and I are still getting used to the power it has when turned fully on and even when using it at different rates when summoning up the braking power. By and large, I have never even needed to use the rear, friction footbrake as I'm never a fan of having to wear away my tire, just to slow down. At the same time, it just means that the electric brake has been more than enough to keep me out of trouble. That the electric brake is regenerative, even if the amount of energy returned to the battery is negligible, the fact that some power does get regenerated, and for free, and with no wear and tear on ANYTHING, is awesome. The spare battery on the post is a nice touch. It does make the post and feeling of the scooter different but once one gets used to it, like with anything else that people get used to, it is like there is nothing on the post. That we have the option to swap it out with another one we can carry in a backpack to get us another 10 or so miles so we can get back to the vehicle, is one of the big reasons why I chose the ES4. It is also super easy to change out the battery as the rubber bungs just get pried out, the allen wrench that came with the scooter to assemble the handlebars-which is a nice tool, a bigger plastic handled T-Allen wrench, the two bolts come out, the new batteyr goes on, making sure to just give the bottom of the battery a nice little fist bump to make sure the connections for the battery get connected and that is it.Plus, if we ever did drain the first set of batteries, we'd ride slowly, conserving the power to get either home or back to the truck so we don't have to actually kick-scoot back.If there is a knock, and one that my boy and I don't really mind, is that as the tires are solid, the ride is firm but easily tolerable. As we have all had Razor A5 kickscooters, compared to those urethane tired and non -suspended scooters, the ES4's ride on air. The suspensions both front and back are enough to help with the ride. There is definitely that front clacking when one hits the front wheel hard on a bump or crack, but if one is good, one just either avoids or, slows down for the bumps or cracks or, if one is really good, will just rear back and have the front wheel loft over whatever obstacle might cause the clack. My boy and I have gotten used to both the sound and how the scooters react over most terrain/pavement.The entire scooter, minus the external battery and the fenders, is Aluminum. It is heavy duty. The handlebar controls are plastic but, Segway sells the replacements for all the handlebar parts and it would take a 2nd story fall or full speed into a wall or barrier to bend the steering stem or the deck. Even all the LED lights under the deck are recessed well into the solid aluminum chassis. The build quality is all there, at least externally.I also like how most all the parts that make up the scooter are available. I can imagine eventually needing a new internal battery and maybe a front wheel motor but the other big reason I chose the ES4 is for all the replacement parts that can be gotten should wear and tear and time take their toll on the original equipment. My boy has about worn out his front tire after some 70 miles as he is only about 70 lbs so when he accelerates at WOT from a stop in Sport mode, he can get the front tire to spin up to speed as he is so light. Meanwhile, my front tire is still in decent shape and the rear tires have almost no wear at all.The app is good enough and shows me all I need to know and when the battery charger is plugged in, it will show where the batteries are with regards to %-left before fully charged.I'll also agree with the other review that has the battery bars as being hard to interpret with how much battery life is left where the app will give one the exact amount of %-left for the batteries. I'm glad I went with the ES4 as between the speed/top speed, nice acceleration in either normal or sport mode and the great range. When I go out for a ride, I'm going out for a ride and a 10 mile or less range was not going to cut it. That we can get a good 20 miles, on mostly level ground, not needing to go slow as cruising from 12-17 mph is almost effortless, and to be able to swap out the external battery in the field to get 10 more miles, the ES4 was a good choice. It has only been a month with the scooter and less than 100 miles. Once the spring comes and then summer and we can ride more and more and more, it will be nice if the scooters can go a few more years or even 5 years and the next generation of stuff with maybe more speed, more range and a lower price will come and I'll be 5 years older and gulp, the kids will be 14 and 15 years old.

Gliding along on a rainbow wave...love it!
Got the scooter a few days ago and put it together yesterday. It was very nicely packed and was easy to assemble. All that was required was to bolt on the steering bar onto the stem after plugging in the small electric wire. The scooter is smooth and sleek looking. It charged to 100% within about 3 hours. It shows the % on the digital display. After that i downloaded and registered the Ninebot app from the Google Playstore and opened it. I turned on my phone's Bluetooth and then turned on the scooter. Like the booklet said, the scooter started to seek out its BT target and easily matched up my phone. Once that was done I upgraded the firmware via the app. The mileage on the app is km and i could not find how to switch it to miles. Then i played with the under light settings and i must admit that this is beyond cool! I will only have them on at night though because i am sure they drain the battery. You can also turn off the rear light on the app. The front light is turned on by a click in the digital display top of the stem.So then I closed the app and just studied the digital display. It is bright and viewable in direct sunlight. There are 3 speed modes low, medium (white s), and fast (red s). You double click on the digital display screen to move through them. Easy and easy.I like the low, broad, wide floorboard with room to shift feet. I don't like the idea of hard rubber tires and never did, in theory, but they are not as hard as i imagined.Suspension is on the front fork and back mid platform. The scooter is reasonably light. I had no problem carrying it and putting it in my car. The folding feature is easy to engage aka easy to open and close. The ride: i rode it around on a variety of concrete surfaces in low speed, averaging 10mph to get a feel for the scooter's handling. The tires aren't horrible and the handling and turning of the scooter are quite nimble. Of course I slowed down at some big cracks in the pavement but the scooter easily traversed them. The ergonomics of the scooter felt comfortable for me, a short person. The throttle wasnt real twitchy and that is fine for me as I don't like twitchy.Same with the brakes. I let off the throttle then gently pressed on the brake paddle and the brake engaged without being too jumpy. I am not much for the notion of using the rear press brake so i was glad that the front brake did not feel like it was going to toss me off. Nice gentle slow down. The lighting in front and rear plus the "light show" underneath are awesome. I bought a bell and have yet to figure out a rear view mirror but am working on that. All in all i like this scoot and really like not having to worry about getting a flat. It is worth the "road feel ride". You do feel the suspension in the front which is a plus and the ride just feels flexible on the platform. The app is easy to use and has some fun features. I enjoy looking at photos from worldwide riders and tracking my miles. I don't ride with it open but if it's on it will track my ride. I do admit to playing with the lights in the living room while watching tv!At some point I will get the extra battery for sure. I have read many reviews and seen some bad things re error codes, etc. I just hope my scoot holds up. I will likely add the extra insurance just to be safe.If you want a user friendly app based scooter to commute on or just have fun on, I strongly recommend this one. This is my basic run around ride to the grocery store scooter. It can be locked to the bike rack or wheeled around in the big grocery cart. It is light enough to cart in the car for glides in the park. For longer rides and exploration I am saving up for a big brother Max.Try to not let negative reviews dissuade you. Every, and I mean every, scooter brand that i looked at has lemons. I had to move through this reality in order to work up to buying any of them.Get the extra buyer protection and note the manufacturer's warrenty and you should be ok.I got the bell, a good helmet, and the Ninebot bag that hangs on the front stalk. I now get more excited about scooter riding than cycling. At 65 it is never too late to take up a new passion. The kids in my neighborhood follow me around and i have got a few others thinking about buying a scooter. The ES2 is a good basic scooter plus you can increase range, but not top speed, with the extra battery. And oh how beautiful those lights!2021 Update: I am on my 2nd ES2 after my 1st got stolen. I did order and try the seat but found it uncomfortable and plus I was unable to stand on the scooter once it was installed. I have also added another longer range, bigger wheeled scooter to my stable. Not a Max but better. Even with that, there is still something sweet about this ES2. They are becoming scarce so get an ES4 if you want one and can't find one. It is just the ES2 with the long range battery, which I will add at some point. I hope mine keeps running for a long time. Just sweet, easy to fold, lightweight, no chance of flats, cool lights! Love it!Update 2022:I have found a way to switch over to miles versus kilometers in the app. Go to settings and explore. Also, by adjusting the front and rear shock tension you can smooth out the ride. Happy scooting!

Worth it
Love it so far. Comfortable to ride with lots of features that make it fun and cool at the same time. Charge holds maybe for 9 miles and speed is 27kph on flat but anything above a 5% grade and you’re down to 11kph.

La batería no sirve.
La batería se descompuso a los dos meses de uso y no he podido hacer válida la garantía ya que Segway no se hace responsable.

Vibration in front end.
We received The E4 scooter 2 weeks ago from Amazon Canada. After using it for the 12 days all was OK, in the last two day I noticed a lot of front end in vibration, it started when I pressed the front brakes. Now the vibration happens regularly. The scooter has only been used for 2 weeks. Now after 3 months the Scooter has been sent in for repair 3 times and at this point the Scooter is not working at all. $1000 later and it is collecting dust in my garage.
