Clear, crisp mic with great noise canceling
As a remote web developer, I'm in remote meetings all the time, so having a reliable microphone is important! I decided on this sort of microphone as it could sit neatly on my desk, and it's actually quite impressive.Pros:• Clean sound quality with minimal background noise• Plug and play setup with USB• Adjustable noise-canceling• Looks good on my desk: sleek and minimalCons:• None so farFirst Impressions:The microphone feels solid and well-built, and setting it up was as simple as plugging it into my dock. No extra drivers were needed on my Mac and it just worked, which is always a pleasant surprise. It offers both USB and XLR connectivity, but I mainly use the USB option for simplicity in my work setup. The matte black finish gives it a clean, professional look. It's very compact and looks super professional, which I love on my remote set up. I can just have it sat on my desk and it doesn't need to be close to me as it's so sensitive, and I can easily move it around if I need to as the wire is long.Performance:For work meetings, this mic has been great. It focuses on my voice and reduces noise from my surroundings, and the noise-canceling function has been very handy, helping to restrict noise from my dog who often scurries about or barks in the garden.I've had no complaints about sound quality from colleagues, and my voice comes through clear even when I'm speaking a bit quieter. I like that it has real-time monitoring, so I can hear my voice through my headphones and ensure everything sounds right. I think it sounds surprisingly smooth and crisp, even though it's sat toward the back of my desk. The controls on the mic itself are straightforward: there's a volume adjustment and a mute button, both of which are useful, although I do mostly just use my computer to do this. I don't find myself needing to move it often, but I'd imagine podcasters and streamers will find the rotation useful and how light it is - although I can't speak for their more professional needs!Verdict:This is an excellent microphone for anyone who needs clear, reliable audio for work calls. It's easy to use, looks good, and the sound quality is solid. If you're looking for an affordable upgrade from your built-in mic, this one's a great choice. It's been great to trial and it's an asset to my set-up now!

Plug & Play Set Up
When you first unpack this microphone you do have to do a little bit of assembly work. The stand is made from metal and is fairly simple to assemble and attach to the microphone with just your fingers. Once assembled and the microphone is attached you can set it to an angle that works well for you - it doesn't have to be vertical. It comes with a USB-A to USB-C cable that connects to your laptop or PC and also serves to power the microphone so it doesn't need any external power supply. There is also an XLR port (but no cabling) to allow you to link this in to audio equipment - to be honest if you have a mixing desk of any description then you probably have a surfeit of cables anyway.Operation is via the dial/button on the microphone itself. The issue is that there is no way of telling what it is set to so before settling down to record you are going to have to double check each and every time - this could become tedious depending on how many sessions it takes for one cohesively recorded piece. The noise cancellation works by pushing the dial/button in and pushing again to turn it off.It is truly plug and play, I popped the cable in to my laptop, opened my recording software and it saw the microphone with no issue.Because this is a dynamic microphone it works best when you are close to the head of the unit. I primarily record voice overs for family videos and this means that I can have the microphone wherever I want so it is simple to make sure I have it in the premium position for recording. The sound is actually surprisingly good and it does pick up on slight variations in vocal pitch and tone very pleasingly - I didn't like the noise cancellation as it did seem to dampen the main vocal range quite substantially making it feel flat and uninteresting.Having the headphone socket in the base of the microphone so you can check levels and that the background noise isn't too overwhelming is very useful. I couldn't have it on all the time but for checking everything is set up "just so" it is a real boon. This looks and feels rather professional and makes me want to sit down and complete some of those projects I have on the back burner at the moment.

Absolutely amazing microphone
This microphone is truly amazing - WAY better than any other microphone I've owned and I have owned some of the more known ones such as blue yeti etc. What makes this microphone so good is the clarity in the sound. I never changed any settings but I have been getting told the mic is clearer than ever. Something that really helps this is the noise cancelling - it is so good that it doesn't even pick up the noise from my powerful fan right next to me. On top of that having the freedom to connect with a USB connector, or an XLR one is really nice because it gives studio quality microphone experiences to people who may not have the XLR and/or the means of using XLR on their device. Not only that, but the USB connector and the plug and play nature of the mic means you can actually use this on mobile devices too (I tested on my Samsung phone and it worked perfect). This mic is really above the level I'd expect from this price point, and it was a massive upgrade to my setup.

Sounds good on XLR
Let's be honest: microphones are SO hard to rate! They're all so minutely different that it's painfully difficult to say which is better and which is worse. My only way of evaluating this microphone is by comparing it to an ancient AKG Perception 200 that I have. From that standpoint, after trying several configurations, I believe this NearStream mic sounds quite good--but on XLR, not as much as USB-C. When on XLR, I have it connected to a noise gate and a cheap behringer audio interface. I have it recording at 1 channel, 16 bit, 48 KHz (the same as when it is connected via USB-C). The sound seems to be clearer, crisper, and free of errors, though quieter than my Perception mic. When connecting via USB-C, I did encounter some problems. First, it takes a good amount of power, so I have to connect it to a powered USB hub because my USB cables are rather long (my physical PC is actually in the basement and my monitor and such are on the second floor). Second, the mic was relatively quiet even on the highest volume. Third, it seemed to sometimes add imperfections into the audio, and it just didn't sound as good on the whole as when I used XLR. However, this might again be due to my unusual setup. There's a good chance that it would perform better if my mic and my PC were actually in the same room.Unfortunately, the noise reduction feature is only available when using USB-C. It does seem to work. However, it's not so amazing that I would switch to USB-C over XLR.In the end, I believe this is a good microphone. It didn't really outdo my old mic, but it seems at least to be comparable to it in terms of quality.

EXCELLENT mic
This is a really good dynamic mic that has surprised me quite a bit. I am not using it via USB, so I don't have much to say about that, but this thing sounds REALLY REALLY good hooked up to my audio interface via XLR. It sounds warm and full without doing too much to color the sound of your voice. I love the included windscreen. Also love the mount for fixing it to a boom.I also like that this mic, unlike most XLR mics I have tried on my PreSonus interface, doesn't seem to require a signal booster. This is huge. It's a great looking mic as well, and it sounds even better than it looks.I use it primarily for video conferencing for work, and for gaming, and it should be perfect for podcasting as well. I presume the USB mode probably sounds great too, which would make this very user friendly. It does have a headphone input on the bottom so you can monitor yourself (side tone) but this only works in USB mode... which is fine since if you are running it via XLR, you probably are already monitoring from your interface like I am.I am just kind of blown away by how much I like this microphone. It just looks really really good, and sounds amazing. It feels well made, and actually has a little bit of heft to it. To get something this good in the sub-$100 segment is pretty amazing, and I can definitely vouch for the fact that most other mics I have tried in this price range cannot come even close to how good this one is.

Great build and sound!
This is a very well-made microphone. I love the modern squared-off design of the pop screen, and the sleek metal body is as solid as you'd expect from a prosumer-grade mic. I also like the little stand that this one came with; it looks great on the desk and makes it easy to move it out of the way when not in use. There is also a connection on the bottom if you wanted to put it on a boom arm instead of the desk stand. It's nice to keep options open, and it's easy to find quality boom arms that will work with this mic since it uses the standard 1/4" thread. All the connections you could ever need are included: USB, as well as XLR to connect to a mixing console, for example. There is also a 3.5mm monitor jack for your headphones. The operation of the mic is very straightforward. There is one knob, which can also be pressed to change modes. The knob requires a lot of turning to change the levels, giving you very precise control over both mic level and headphone monitor. As far as sound quality goes, no complaints there at all. I tried a variety of phrases as well as some (not very good) singing while recording to my PC, and the reproductions were absolutely stellar! This mic sounds (and looks) much more expensive than it is. What I would expect from a NearStream product: sleek, modern style and great sound. If you need a small desktop mic for podcasting, gaming, or video calls, you will like this one. No complaints whatsoever.
