Very charismatic and polished game.
This game is very entertaining. You can play 4 player on on Xbox 360, in split screen. There might be a bit of screen degradation, to display 4 player split screen, but play back is still silky smooth. Very nice implementation of the Cryware Engine.Maps are all inventive and colorful. My 7 y.o. loves playing it, and can play it without any problems and comes in first almost always on the easy setting, and can place first a lot of times on the medium setting, and can sometimes place in the top 3 on hard, so the difficulty settings are good for those with novice skills. I play with her quite often, and enjoy the heck out of the game. We have played at least 4 hours in the title, and just scratched the surface of the title, with plenty of characters to unlock and a bunch of maps, characters and modes left to unlock. (I think the game has 10 characters unlocked by default with 9 or 10 left to unlock in the game) I look forward to seeing what else this title has to offer. I think Sega is planning more DLC for it as well. Sega gifted Alex Kidd on Christmas day. I'd love to see Vanellope von Schweetz as a DLC character.A couple of things of note for ease of access to the game. The controls for flying were very difficult for my 7 year old, and not too easy for me frankly. The game detects if you are having difficulty flying and offers to invert the controls, and offer flying aids, which makes it much more accessible for a younger gamer, and even myself, not to become to frustrated over sections of the game. Kudos to the developer for offering this. Also there are stages, that aren't racing against opponents but time challenges, and these are very difficult, in my opinion, but if you fail them (I think 3 times), the game lets you skip that portion of the career mode, and go on to the next track. This game is a highly polished kid's racing game that parents will appreciate and have fun with too. Giving it 5 stars. Hopefully they won't price DLC too high. Graphics are fun, bright, imaginative and colorful. This is a very polished racer, and Sega should be proud.

A great game for the kids in your household!
Most kids are familiar with Sonic. Most kids are also familiar with various racing games. This is a fun, innocent racing game that is perfect for kids. It has great graphics, some familiar characters, very diverse levels, action aplenty, and loads of unlockables. Up to four people can play this on your family game system, and you can also play over the internet via Xbox Live. This game has several game play variants, including a career race mode - in which you compete against other computer AI racers, Battle Arena - in which you try to knock out opponents by hitting them three times with cartoony traps and weapons, VS racing - in which players simply try to outrun their opponents (think Mario Kart), Battle Race - which combines racing with knocking out opponents, and my personal favorite - Capture the Chao - in which players play a sort of capture-and-return-the-flag game. There is a lot of variety in this game - much more than in a typical racing game, and plenty to keep things entertaining for a good long while. Of course, my kids' favorite races and competitions are the ones in which they can beat their dad! This game can be fun for adults, too, in my opinion, though it is clearly designed for the kids. another aspect of the game that will keep them interested for a long time are the numerous unlockable awards, characters, racetracks, and other items. All of these "mini-goals" make the game both more challenging and more fun. This game gets an "A" from me. There are few Xbox games that appeal to my kids that are both innocent and fun, and this is one of the better ones.

Kart racing at its best!
Sonic hasn't been good in a long time. That said, I avoided the two cart racers with the Sonic and Sega name on them when they were released.Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed was added to the Xbox One backwards compatibility list, and the review scores were very good, with many saying it was equal to or better than Nintendo's Mario Kart series. Really?! Now I am interested!Because of Gamestop's price gouging practices, any game added to the backwards compatibility list suddenly doubles or triples in price. This means Gamestop currently charges $30 for a used copy, disc only, in a generic box.Amazon had it new for under $16.00! SOLD!I actually got it for my kids, but my boys, my wife, and I have all been playing it and enjoying it since it arrived yesterday afternoon. Four player and two player games are quite fun and looks awesome on a 60" HDTV. I remember playing four player Goldeneye on a 32" CRT TV back in the day, so kids today are very spoiled. The game is great. It's frustrating (in a good way), huge levels, lots of modes, old Sega characters and tracks based on their games, and fun unlockables. I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes couch games for the whole family and enjoys a good cart racing game... Better than Mario Kart??? Yes... Yes it is!
