Fun Pirates of the Caribbean inspired story!
This made my Pirates of the Caribbean heart happy! It had the feel of POTC and some similarities throughout but was new & different enough on its own to make me love it.Aster is tough & resilient (like our girl Elizabeth). Her character develops into a powerful, determined hero that you can’t help but love. She overcomes so much & you feel it right along with her. Will? Well, he’s harder to pinpoint for me. I liked him and rooted for him but I’m going to just leave him as a mystery so that those of you who haven’t read it can figure him out for yourselves. For me, I don’t fully trust him yet and I feel like there’s much more to him than we learn in book one. I’m thinking the second book will shed more light into his character and I have no doubt I’ll end up loving him.Other honorable mentions are:•Captain Shade (Nightweavers Captain Jack Sparrow IMO)•Titus (the prince in blame for everything)•Aster’s family (all entertaining in there own way and all fiercely protective of each other)•Henry (I honestly disliked him at first, which is what Gray wanted I think!)In summary, the book as a whole kept me hooked and I honestly just didn’t want to put it down! It had everything you’d want in a pirate book mixed with magic, curses and powerful villains. Trinkets! I loved that little touch. The world building was immersive, the character growth was good for being the first book, and both the pace & plot were steady and exciting.

Pirates. Gothic Mansion. Dark Creatures. Murder Mystery.
Epic.I’m at a loss for words, other than that one: epic.Truly, this book is not for the faint of heart. Dang is it god though. I just…wow. My jaw dropped. I was on the edge of my seat, I had to take a breather at one point. And this story isn’t over, it’s just beginning.

I enjoyed every minute of this book
Perfect for Pirates of the Caribbean fans who want a little extra magic on top.The story starts off with Violet's home, her family's pirate ship, being attacked by Nightweavers. Amid the gun-smoke and cannon fire, we're introduced to Violet, her brother Owen, and the rest of her family. And almost just as quickly, their life as pirates comes to an end.Readers who prefer a more relaxed introduction to a world and its characters should not let this deter them. Gray expertly immerses us into the world of the Nightweavers after the initial chaos and makes it easy to root for Violet and her family. My only issue with the pirate aspect of the book is that you don't get to see any real piracy on the high seas, nor any of the Oberon family's crew. They're a tight-knit, loving family that seem to be pirates only in name, even if Violet admits that they've killed and stolen.Sold at auction to the wealthy Lord Castor, Violet and her family make a new life for themselves as paid servants at Bludgrave manor, taking this story from high-seas to ballrooms and court intrigue in a matter of seven chapters or less. But not before Violet comes face to face with the masked and scarlet clad pirate, Captain Shade, who rescued her from the floating ship of torture: The Deathwail. And soon we have a dark fantasy with blood magic and mythical creatures, possessive spirits known as Sylks, shifters, and Nightweaver lore that draws a few antediluvian Biblical parallels.I very much enjoyed the forbidden romance between the young Lord Will and Violet, along with the added tension of his brother Henry and the Prince of the Erie. And all the while, we wonder, when will the mysterious Captain Shade reemerge?Gray expertly pulls us along for a ride, and by the time Violet is forced to attend a Nightweaver ball and dance with the Prince she has sworn to kill, there's absolutely no turning back. The story manages to be swoony, funny, magical, and bloodsoaked all at once. The romantic tension expertly dodges the love triangle trope, and Gray writes Will, Henry, and the Prince so well, that I want them each to have their own stories with their own POVs. But Violet remains a strong, interesting character to follow, each chapter delivering another twisty revelation as she works to unravel Will, the Prince's, and Captain Shade's secrets in time to save her family.Haunted by memories of Owen, pursued by the darkness, and desperate to conquer the evil that lurks around Bludgrave Manor, Violet is no wilting daisy in need of saving. And the men around her know it.As far as content goes, steam is mild with a kiss count of two and a half.Language is very mild and appropriate for YA.Refreshingly, this is a YA fantasy with a mother, father, and siblings present to support the protagonist. And the climax and ending have me eagerly awaiting a sequel. Will and Violet's love for each other is beautiful, but it's hard to say who I really want to see her with more. Captain Shade is fetching, as well as the Prince of the Erie!Nightweaver delivers so much more than expected, and most striking is the beautiful prose that makes it a joy to read. Eager to see this one in audio book and film one day.

fantastic first book
I was so excited to read this book and did not disappoint. It set up the world and the conflict wonderfully, and introduces you to each characters personality through some initial conflicts. While I did like Violet, I think Henry and Captain Shade are my top characters right now. Anxiously awaiting information about book two so I can see what chaos comes next!
