I have used these sharpeners before with great success and this one is no different, use on a very flat smooth surface, pull the lever over and the suction cup grabs the work surface.You don't get any instructions to tell you what blades you can sharpen but in my opinion most blades with a V profile/shape will be ok, the top of the sharpener has an arrow showing which way to pull the blade through, only pull the blade back toward yourself.The suction cup on this one I'm testing did pop off after using it for a few minutes and it was on a flat smooth surface so be aware.I tested this sharpener on a couple of dull blades and it did put a decent sharp edge back on the knives.I'm knocking 1 star off because IMO it popped off to quickly after only a couple of minutes.

This is miles smaller than it appears to be in the pictures, but big enough for even my biggest knives. It has a suction pad that holds it in place on your work surface. My kitchen surfaces are wooden but it will even hold in place on that for a little while.DROPPED STARS REASONS:I've dropped a star because I think it is a bit vicious. Rather than getting a bit of metal dust when you pull a knife through it, you get actual rolls of metal. So your knives wont last very long if you're pulling off that much metal each time.I've dropped the other star, because my knife still wasn't cutting any better after 'sharpening' it. But, after sharpening I used a steel, which doesn't actually sharpen knives, but pulls an burrs off the edges. After using the steel, the knife was much improved. I had tried using the steel before sharpening, but it hadn't made the knife cut any better.So this sharpener might be good for you, but will cut through your knives quickly and you still might have to use a steel or a strop. I'm not going to use it again because of the amount it takes off.

I've never had a knife sharpener but have been meaning to get one. This little one is ideal. You use the handle to apply suction to the bottom pad, and it sticks solidly to any flat surface - I used it on my worktop and it was absolutely solid - no chance of it coming off, so it felt really safe to use. I sharpened a set of 5 kitchen knives with flat blades and tested before and after on a tomato - there was a real difference in sharpness and less pressure was needed to cut through the tomato skin after sharpening. It produces a few minute bits of metal dust but these are easily cleaned away, and to my mind it shows that it's actually doing what it should. So all in all a great little device, and a bargain at £5.99!

I've had a similar type of sharpener to this in the past which was one of the branded ones but this one does the job equally well. Its not as heavy and seems slightly smaller. Even though its doesn't look as robust as my previous one I still think it will give good service.It sticks well to the surfaces which is reassuring when handling sharp knives and gives you the confidence to run your blades through it. It does leave them very sharp which is your main aim. Its a very good price for this type of sharpener so I'm happy with my purchase.

This is a no frills knife sharpener that doesn't try to be premium or fancy; it just sticks like a limpet to smooth surfaces, and sharpens knives.Build quality is functional plastic. It's not going to put up with abuse, but it will last if used as designed.
