Kind of expensive for what it is
Look, this is basically a mason jar with a lid/paddle that sits on top. It works. It churns butter. It does not work fast. It’s a lot of work. Is it kind of fun at first? Maybe. Will you get tired of it before you actually have butter? Probably. We did. I ended up taking the arm off the handle and spinning it with my drill. At this point I thought to myself, why am I doing this when I could just use the stand mixer.Absent a stand mixer, maybe there is some value here, I guess? But I can’t hardly see anyone doing this regularly or getting much real use out of it.It works as well as expected and it didn’t blow up even when I spun it excessively fast with the drill so the quality seems fine. It just feels like a novelty that almost no one is going to really use, presuming you have electric in your house. At the end of the day, to each their own, but I strongly suspect you’ll never actually use this. If you want to do it once just to see, this will do the trick, but don’t think it’s going to be quick. I will add though that I believe we probably filled it with too much cream which made it exceptionally difficult to make butter, so maybe shoot for half full or so and I think you’d have better results. But… if you’ve read all this, you still want to make butter, and you have a stand mixer, get a cover for that and use that instead. This is simply not worth the effort in my eyes, in spite of being a well enough made solution. It also seems a bit expensive for what it is to me.

Not worth a dollar
The media could not be loaded. The video is the first time I’ve tried to use this. It is terrible! First I dropped the very tiny washer that I guess is meant to hold the handle on. Because the screw doesn’t. After about five minutes of churning I can feel and hear the teeth of the gears out of alignment. I feel like I got ripped off with this purchase. I hate it.

So exciting!
I am so jazzed about making my own butter! One simple ingredient - heavy cream is all you need! Well, and a little bit of salt, too.The parts come really well packaged, there’s minimal assembly required, and it turns like a dream. I would definitely recommend this!UPDATE:I bought a pint of heavy whipping cream, poured it in, added a level tablespoon of table salt, and began whirling. After about 15 minutes the gears locked up and it wouldn’t turn. I doused them with a couple of drops of vegetable oil and that got them to working again. At the 25 minute mark of spinning as fast as I could (having to tighten the screws a couple of times when they came loose) it was about the consistency of pudding. At the 35 minute mark I had what I would call “whipped” butter, which was airy in a good way — but there was no buttermilk to strain. It was tasty af though. Nothing like it, not even Kerrygold, I assure you. When I scooped it out the section at the bottom where the mixer didn’t reach (under the more solid stuff) was more liquidy. That’s okay though; it was still spreadable. There was no way to mix it better and no way to use the strainer lid so I just mixed it by hand into the rest of it.My pancakes never tasted so good.SPECIAL NOTE: As an approved Amazon Vine member with Gold status, I am trusted to select items for review (sometimes from a list of over 100,000 options). ON HOLD. REVISED, EXPLANATION : )
I love the idea of this small Butter Churn. I have an old family churn of the same type, but use it only on special occasions since so much cream is needed for it to work properly. Was excited to get this, thinking it would be good quality (not inexpensive). Upon receiving it, while putting it together and trying out the lids, gears, etc. several serious concerns occurred. I have contacted the company, only by email, a phone number is not available. Am hoping my churn was a Fluke, and it will be taken care of. If that is true and things are made right I will gladly revise my review. This will definitely be a report of the company and the product. To be continued.....GREAT NEWS: The Carod folks contacted me about the Butter Churn's problems. I sent them photos and they promptly responded by sending me a new Churn. It's great: no chips, the turn mechanism works smoothly in either direction. I love the little churn, can have delicious butter quickly and any time. And, this churn has an advantage (other than being smaller) that my heirloom churn doesn't: it has a second lid to strain the buttermilk off, very nice feature! I so appreciate a company that not only has a great product, but also takes care of the customer when a problem does occasionally arise. Thank you, folks at Carod.

Overpriced for what it does
This review is for the Mason Jar Manual Butter Maker and overall, it works well. The design is user-friendly, and I was able to create delicious homemade butter within 15 minutes with a power drill attachment! However, I find it to be grossly overpriced for what it offers. While it delivers on its promise of making butter efficiently, the cost is quite high compared to similar products on the market. If you’re willing to invest a bit more for a quality butter churn, this one won’t disappoint, but be prepared for the steep price. Hence the 4 stars for the cost. But it does work and it looks nice on your kitchen shelf!
