A portable printer that prints from Apple mobile devices!
Over a year ago, I purchased a PIXMA iP100 printer to take on the road with me. I loved that I could print airline tickets from my hotel room and copies of presentations when visiting clients, etc... It proved to be very handy and still works fine to this day. However, I have some apps for my iPhone and iPad that I wish I could have used with the iP100 but it didn't support Apple's AirPrint protocol. When I discovered the PIXMA iP110, with WiFi and support for Apple AirPrint, I bought one. I've been using it for several weeks and I love it. Now, I can print from my laptops and all my mobile devices. And I love the WiFi Hotspot (access point) feature of the printer. If I'm away from an available WiFi system, becomes its own WiFi system, allowing me to print anywhere on the road. There's some pros and cons with this little printer: Pros: * It is small and can be battery operated (battery not included). * It works great with my iPhone and iPad, allowing me more flexibility with mobile computing. * The print quality is quite good and it handles normal and heavier stock papers. It will even print envelopes. * It uses the exact same battery as my iP100 so I didn't have to buy another expensive battery for it. * It will work when away from a WiFi system by becoming its own WiFi access point. Cons: * If you need a high volume printer. This isn't it. It will go through ink fairly quickly (as does my iP100). * It will not support paper sizes wider than 8.5 inches. * It is just a little bulky so plan on buying a larger, more protective, computer bag if you're going to air travel with it.

Read these instructions for Mac installation & save yourself a lot of grief.....
OK, so I have gone from loving to hating this printer. You really would think that Canon would understand that people who buy a mobile printer are busy people who do not have hours to spend figuring out how the product they bought, but apparently they don't. I bought this printer not so much for its wireless capability, but for its small size (to fit next to our kitchen iMac) and for its portability for travel. If you are thinking about buying it, please follow these instructions to save yourself a lot of grief. First, do not under any circumstances, attempt to understand the installation diagram Canon includes in the box. And forget about trying to look at the video they reference because the page no longer exists. There are a couple of YouTube videos that are helpful. Second, accept that you're probably not going to get this thing to work wirelessly (at least not initially) so just go to Best Buy NOW and buy the USB A to B cable that Canon couldn't be bothered to include in the package. Make sure you get the more square version for printers and not the file transfer type. I took a picture of the connection just to be sure I got the right one. The set -up is far simpler than the diagram, but here are the basic steps 1) Take the two ink cartridges and the cartridge frame out of their packages and remove the orange plastic protectors around each. Pop each cartridge into the sized slot in the frame. 2) Life up the top lid of the printer (where the paper goes in) and move the paper guide all the way to the left. 3) Lift the little bottom flap (where it comes out) and remove the protective paper. 4) Press the on/off button to turn the printer on 5) Lift up the panel directly in front of the buttons and wait for the cartridge carrier to center itself. 6) Lift up the top frame of the cartridge carrier, insert the frame with the cartridges into it, secure the frame back down and close the lid. Mine seemed to take several rounds at getting the cartridges positioned once the lid was closed. 7) Connect the printer to your Mac using the USB cable. 8) You should be immediately prompted to install the appropriate Canon software. 9) Once the software is installed, take one of the two heavy white paper sheets that came with the printer, insert it with the trimmed corner to the upper right and press the center button with the down arrow and triangle. You have to hold it down for a few seconds and release. The printer will print out a color gauging page. 10) Repeat the process with the second white page and the printer will print out a blue and gray tone gauging page. 11) Now you can insert paper and print normally. 12) When you print the first print-out from the connected printer, check off the box that says "Share this printer in the network." Anytime you want to use it from another computer in the network, you will be prompted to download the Canon software from that computer. I haven't yet tried it from an iPhone or iPad.

Nice sized little printer, works as it should once you get it on your network.
GEESH, I've spent too long trying to set this thing up to my 2012 Macbook Air, via downloading the drivers and going through Airport Utility and the BaseStation tab (and clicking enable WPS printer- with first attempt button clicked - not WPS pin code). I've had this printer a week and just spent more than 2 hours, but stumbled upon a successful method of setting this printer up - maybe it was luck but the first several, maybe dozen attempts via IP code, WPS pin, etc didnt work. I'd give it two starts for ease of setup but 4 is because once done, it actually works well. I have not tried this via my iphone 6 or ipad 2 yet. I think I'd rather chew both arms off before I try to set up another device right now. What I did to get this to work was: 1) download the drivers for my software, which was Yosemite v10.10. You can download the correct drivers here: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/printers_multifunction/photo_inkjet_printers/pixma_ip110#DriversAndSoftware 2) use setup to go through the process. It took me several attempts as the setup tool did not see the printer. 3) Open Airport Utility, ensure your router is there (if not like mine wasnt, reset your Airport Extreme in my case and restart your computer), then click the BaseStation tab at top and then click Add A WPS printer. Once that window is open, I clicked Add on first attempt button (instead of use WPS code button, which did not work), and once I did that, I went back to the printer, and hit the blue WIFI button until the white power light flashed twice and then went through the setup process, it finally successfully connected, and I was able to add the printer and complete the process. Printer tested fine and printed the page I told it to. Major headache and will have to do this again for my Windows PC, iphone6 and my husbands Macbook. If you consider buying this printer, be sure to have MAJOR PATIENCE. I am not sure how others did this adding just an IP address to the network. I have a secure network, and with Airport Extreme, I was able to add it using the drivers, and not having to enter the WIFI security via this method. GOOD LUCK!

Very nice compact printer
Excellent little printer! I got it for traveling in the RV as occasionally we have a need to print something. This is just a basic printer - 2 ink cartridges and a paper feeder. The printer is compact and clean looking (not clunky). Set up: Installing the print head was simple - slide it right in. Installing the ink cartridges was simple - typical Canon ink cartridges. The black cartridge did not light up however but that was my fault. I didn't get one side of the print head snapped in tight enough. I just pushed on the contact points and it clicked right in and the ink cartridge lit up ready to go. The print head alignment took a few extra minutes as the special paper wouldn't feed. I don't know what the issue was but finally it picked up the paper and printed out the alignment test paper just fine. Connecting to my laptop: I installed the set up files via the included CD. Slight stall when it got to "searching for printer" and the app displayed a Print List screen. The printer wasn't in the list - nothing was. So I did the search again - still nothing. So I just hit "Next". The printer connected immediately to my wi-fi network and did it's little setup thing. Dunno why it didn't show up on the list but it worked just fine after that. The print is nice and crisp. I have a full size Canon multi-purpose wireless printer and it drinks ink greedily. I don't know yet how long these cartridges will last but I expect all Canon's are the same. Bottom line: This is a nice mobile printer. The setup was a breeze and it prints beautifully. (side note: I bought the EVA Hard Protective Travel Case Carrying Bag for CANON PIXMA iP110 Wireless Mobile Printer Airprint By Hermitshell also. Nice case but the smell is horrid. Not sure I can use it.)

Buyer Beware - Seriously, for real.. Beware..
Buyer Beware, Canon uses the term, "mobile" loosely and here's why. In shopping for a mobile printer, my need was to find a compact printer that you can take with you on the go and use easily, especially without the hassle of cords, complicated installs, etc.IE: air print or similar. This is not the situation whatsoever with this printer. This piece of crap for one, took me a good 2+ hours to finally get installed on my surface book and still ended up still needing a USB 1 cable to install it because there was no logical way to do it straight to wireless. Not to mention, the instructions are very odd to interpret with, If you opted for option 1, then.. or if you go to 2 which was separate fold out diagrams. Even going online, canon.com/setup or something, still made you search for the dumb printer. The installer was obscene but somehow it installed multiple copies of the printer and connected to our home wifi router. YAY great... right.. NO, NO, NO!!!! I dont want it dependent on my home wifi.. its supposed to be a flipping mobile printer, so being on my home network, is NOT at all the purpose. Check out our Real life scenario: We're on the way home in our car this evening, my wife says hey I can print this certificate to the new mobile printer from my phone right? Saying yes to her, she pulls its out, plugs in the AC power in the car, (because it doesnt come with a battery for 170 bucks), waits for it to light up and be ready.. (this is about 5 minutes) Next she goes to AIR print the PDF, and first it says, can not find a printer. I then suggest, I think you have to go through the app, and for clarity, i had previously configured and tested at the house days before. (keeping in mind the hassle of not wanting it dependent on the wifi of the house.) She opens the app, where she now has to fumble around her iphone trying to save this pdf certificate so apparently it'll show in the app. Now, we're about 15 minutes into this attempt to print a 1 page certificate.. She pulls it up in the app, hits next and print.. it returns, "Can not connect to printer". We try the direct method of going on the Canon_setup wifi option hoping for it to work from the phone to the printer.. NOPE!!!!.. Now at about 25+ minutes into it.. no print.. "expletive piece of JUNK!!!".. I mean really Canon, come on.. COME ON.. serious.. this is ridiculous. 30 minutes trying to guess how to maybe print.. How is this user friendly? So to-date, we've successfully printed.. a test page.. a page with blue rectangles on it.. and 1 other page i'll explain below. Even back a few days before when i finally got it to set up at home, I tried to configure it using the iphone personal hot spot.. because that makes sense. think about it for a second. If you're mobile.. on the go.. you're probably using your phone hot spot for wifi. Anyhow this would be THE IDEAL scenario for MOBILE printing. that makes sense, right? Turn on your phone hot spot, open your laptop and printer.. and they all connect easily, no brain required. NOPE, no sir-reee.. it apparently doesn't configure like that. it doesnt consider a hot spot, a valid wifi point. So what exactly is mobile about it then? All i can imagine is for this thing to work as a "mobile" printer, you would have to, - Be on some wifi network, somewhere.. - Reinstall the printer on that network / location So i guess, if you have 30 places you go, and actually get on these locations, wifi, then you would have 30 printers installed??? Not including the obscene pain in the rear to install it. I don't know and nor am I going to spend that time figuring it out. Oh and did I mention, going to the web interface is a true joy also. NOT.. apparently the only way it spits out the password, which is either the serial number of the printer or the word "canon", AND is going on to the Canon_setup wifi option, with your phone through the app. you verify the password.. and enter into a browser whatever the IP that shows in the app.. NOPE.. I tried every variation of, ADMIN, admin, and administrator, as well upper and lower case of the password.. and did I ever get in to a web browser interface.. NOPE... not on chrome, IE, firefox or safari. Oh i mentioned prior printing a 3rd page, i was able to hold the wifi button, for 5 blips of the power light, which printed a remote configuration page.. this did nothing for me.. Oh and the icing on the cake.. updating the firmware.. HAHAHAHA, ya right.. it says you need to login with the user/pass to do that.. oh but thats right, login didn't work on multiple computers, phones, etc. In conclusion, BUYER BEWARE, this printer is a total and complete misrepresented flop of a mobile printer, and the truth is the only thing MOBILE about this printer will be how its transported on the UPS truck back to where ever it came from.

You WILL look Professional with this printer. It works well and is oh so handy. Canon printers don't disappoint.
This is a great printer: good quality and super easy to use with all of your devices. It isn't meant to be lightning fast it's meant to be super portable. The speed is still pretty quick and when you whip this out with ease and start printing you will need the time for everyone to ask about his super neat gizmo. Since you won't need to crawl on the floor to a plug or unwind cords and cables you'll have even more time to pat yourself on the back and look like the Professional that you are. I never could get this to find my network by pushing the WPS button. This is the fault of my AT&T router/modem because I bought a new MX922 Canon printer which also would not find the network with WPS. I entered it manually. I think I prefer manual entry, plugging something in then hitting a button to crack open and connect to your secure network seems INSECURE. Just in case the Bluetooth doesn't work (for some inconceivable reason) you can always plug your laptop into the USB port. Not that I've had trouble, I'm just saying. Get the 6foot cable so you can sit and type in your lap. A 3foot cable might entail hunching over the printer to stay close if your cord is short. Cords cost $2 and up so splurge for the 6 footer. If you want to keep looking like a Pro you will be prepared with fail proof backup. You still will not need to crawl around and plug into the wall, just a short cord laptop to printer. Make sure you get the right USB cord.

I was wrong about this printer
UPDATE: MY BAD I forgot to update this 5 1/2 years ago. It was something simple, actually it was operator error 🙄. I still have this printer 6 years later. Although I do not use it everyday nor do I use it on the road but I used to buy less expensive printers that would last less than 2 years with the same amount of use which is about 5-7 sheets per month. It’s a very basic printer, it just prints on standard size sheets and nothing more which is fine for me. All I mostly do is print shipping labels for my small eBay store. You don’t need internet. You can print directly from your phone. I’m very happy with it. This was the original review: THE FOLLOWING IS ABSOLUTELY TRUE.....So I was getting ready to print something this morning when I realized I never wrote a review on, what I thought was, my reliable new portable Cannon Pixma IP110. I was going to say how consistent it has been since I purchased it six months ago.... But then guess what?? That’s right, on the day I decide to give it a good review it decides to totally crap out on me!! Never even used it in the car. Never was exposed to the rough driving that it was built for. Just sat on my desk and printed out 45 eBay shipping labels since June of 2019. Change the cartridges once only. $150 and made to handle the road. Figured if it cost that much and it was made for that purpose that it should last much longer just sitting inside my house printing out only a few labels a month. But NNNO !....it’s blinking an error code that requires me to have it serviced...aarrgghh!! Is there any printer out there that lasts longer than six months because I can’t seem to find one that lasts much longer than that...

Great printer, It almost got one star because of the set-up issues
I bought this printer because it is small, compact and portable. I have had Canon printers in the past, and they are good photo printers, however my last 4 printers were all HP. They all still work, just old technology. I bought a wireless HP printer/scanner for home, it was easy to set to work with any wireless network without using a cd rom to set it up. I needed a portable printer for work and all of the HP printers the size of the Canon Pixma were way out of my price range. So, I bought the Canon printer for the price point, size, and Canon's reputation. I got so frustrated trying to set this printer up, I almost sent it back. I needed to set this printer up, so it worked with my Android phone and Android tablets. When I am at home, I'm on one network, but when I go to work, I am on a different network and I use my cell phone carrier's network when I'm not at work, or home. Setting it up, was a nightmare, because you get no real instructions in the box. I also read the reviews, so I know I was not the only one. I downloaded the manual for this printer and I figured out how to set this printer up very easily for Android. Once I knew what to do, it literally took 2 minutes to set up! First go to the Google play store and download Canon Print Injet/Selphy app and Canon Print Service plug-in app. Turn your printer on, hold down the wifi button, until the power button blinks 3 times. Now, go to your wifi settings on your device and look for your printers wifi address, the address will end with ip110. Look at the back of your printer, the pass word for printers ip address will be there, consisting of 4 letters and 5 numbers, it will say serial number, but it is also your password. Enter your password then click your Canon Print Injet/Selphy app, and print away! Yes it's that easy! You would think that someone at Canon would have made a simply instruction booklet to explain that simply wireless set-up, so that us consumers wouldn't be so frustrated, but that's too much like right. I heard the set-up for Apple devices is really easy too. Please remember this, if you want to print pages off the internet, you must download or screen capture them first, then switch to the printer's wifi network, to print wirelessly.
