Kent & Stowe have clearly thought this through
Bought to replace a £7 pair of snips that had rounded ends, a strap for a lock, and blades that had a gap between them when closed so they tended to crush the stems to death rather than cut cleanly. I paid £9.95 for this Kent and Stowe pair and they're worth every penny. I've used them to deadhead Petunias, Calendula, French Marigolds, Osteospermum and roses. I also use them for harvesting Basil, Mint, Chives, Coriander, Cucumbers, Tomatoes and Sunflowers. They struggle to cut courgette stems purely down to it pushing the limits of maximum diameter. Remember they are snips so they will not replace secateurs for woody stems. The blades are sharp and cut cleanly. When closed the blades are as close as a pair of secateurs so no mangling of stems. The points are perfect for getting into tight spaces accurately. I haven't needed to sharpen them yet but there's plenty of meat on the blade and they're fixed by a crosshead screw and nut so they should be easy to dismantle. The sliding locking mechanism works equally well using one or both hands. It doesn't accidentally slide down and spring open even if you squeeze the handles together repeatedly. If you're wearing gloves it's not quite as easy to use as the catch style lock on secateurs but it's so much easier than a strap style lock. The spring is sturdy but narrow enough that it doesn't pinch your skin if you aren't wearing gloves. The handles have the type of silicone you get on Oxo Good Grips kitchen equipment so they're soft on your flesh but they don't slip. The curved handle shape allows you to rest your thumb quite naturally and comfortably up near the spring. It also means your thumb doesn't slide up the blade. They also sit comfortably if you use the ball of your thumb instead. If you're not sure of suitability for your hand size - I wear a 'Large' size Marigold kitchen glove, my palm is 3.5" (9cm) across They are sturdy so they do weigh a little more than my previous snips. The pair I received weighs 4.7 oz (132g) but I actually feel more confident using them because that little bit of extra weight means I know I'm holding them - those of you with arthritic hands will know what I mean. If they are a bit stiff in first use and don't close smoothly I found a quick shot of WD40 sorts them out.

Works well
Nice clean cut and easy to use. one negative ive found is the lock can sometimes slide up which then has to be moved back down to squeeze the handles together to make a cut but not too much of a problem so otherwise all good

Great little snips.
These are my second pair of these snips, they're my go too gardening cutters. I use them for all my light pruning, dead heading, taking out side shoots etc. They're lightweight & easy to use, I give them a little spray of WD40 in winter after I've cleaned & sharpend them. Can & do recommend them to friends.

Easy to handle.
I had a pair but mislaid them, when it came to using them again I was lost without them. They are great for dead heading and only light pruning. They fit in the hand perfectly. Great for ladies and anyone with small hands. Highly recommended and value for money

Handy snips
Very sharp, reasonably priced and comes from one of the best best brands on the market.

Better suited to smaller hands. A longer handle would probably be more comfortable for me.
I liked the sharp and pointed cutting blades as this allowed for accuracy when cutting fine stems. I hadn’t used snips before and found that the handles were probably too short for my hands. This is not a criticism of the equipment but only something I learned from usage.

Locking catch fell of after almost 11 months
Overall I liked these but after almost 11 months the locking mechanism fell off and now I can not lock them anymore. I did register these with the manufacturer so will try to contact them and see what they say. When you read other reviews you see that this is a occurring problem with the item
