No books, no writers. Love lost.
On the back cover runs a description of this book as, ‘The Booklovers’ Guide to Wine explores how great wines and great writers can be combined to enhance the enjoyment of both. If you were intrigued by this description, you will be disappointed. Only a handful of writers are named. This is how the author has paired wine and writer: ‘Chardonnay (Jane Austen)’. That’s it. And in the following page, after we read some basic descriptions of the Chardonnay grape, we see, ‘Jane Austen and Chardonnay have a universal appeal. On the surface her novels portray the prim gentility of English country life, but the careful reader soon sees the archly humorous and even passionate currents that roil beneath.’ That, I’m afraid is all you’ll read about Jane Austen in this book. The comparisons between Gamay (Keats), Gerwurztraminer (Marcel Proust), and Malbec (Borges), have even less, virtually no, relevant comparative discussion. On that score this book is a disappointment. So far as the book discusses wines, grapes, and terroir, the information is basic and you can get them from better books. By better, I mean books with better quality print, paper, photographs, and more importantly, descriptions and discussions. Take any book by Jancis Robinson, for example.

The book that opened me the door to winery
Even though wine stories are told from the New Works perspective, the good moods, advice and deep knowledge is shared the way that a newcomer to the World of Wine feels welcome. Practical recommendations, comparison of grapes and wines as well as introduction to sacred "know-how" of wine arts are precious. Thank you for compelling this book! I am very inspired to read more. And yes, of course, I recommend this book.

A brilliant must-read for anyone who loves books and wine!
I love literature and I love wine. The two go wonderfully together! Thus, I find the concept of this book very appealing and it does NOT disappoint! I felt like I attended wine school in book form and have already tried out tidbits of my newfound knowledge on friends. Read this book and you'll immediately become the most fascinating guest at any cocktail party. My favorite discovery is JRR Tolkien's favorite wine and why he drank it.Turns out, he is exactly right! A brilliant must-read for anyone who loves books and wine!

Great Wine Guide and Tie In to Books
This book is full of information and an enjoyable read. The book reads great from start to finish, but I also use it as a reference book. Want information on wines from a particular region? You can find it in a heartbeat. The book takes you through history, science, processing, the tasting of wine and more. The tie-ins to literature are also fascinating.
