FANTASTIC retro gaming machine!
This little guy is absolutely amazing! You can play what it comes with out of the box, or you can go all out and install custom firmware on it like I did. The included SD card is okay for casual use, if you plan on doing more advanced stuff with it I recommend one of the Samsung EVO cards in 128GB. Full disclosure, the first product I received did not work, but it was replaced quickly with one which is excellent. I like this version of the console because of the analog sticks, some of the games I play don't work well with the D-PAD and this version, the H, provides the necessary analog sticks. Very happy with this unit!

This is a pretty awesome handheld emulator
This emulator is a pretty cool little device and lets me play a ton of classic games from my childhood. It comes with a ton of games preinstalled and supports a lot of different emulator categories. It even has a huge list of cheats preloaded if that's your thing. The games run great and the screen is high quality for its price and size (better quality than any of these games ever saw originally!). It's fast to boot up and the battery life while in use is great. The issues I have with it are relatively minor and some are just personal preference. First, I don't like the left joystick position. I believe the more common and ergonomic positioning is to have the left joystick above the d-pad. I've adjusted to using this one, but it gets fairly uncomfortable over a period of time. Also, my left joystick has a crackle to it. It doesn't effect its function, but it is relatively annoying and makes me believe it may prematurely fail. Second, the battery drains at a pretty steady rate with the console 'asleep' (just click the power button to turn the screen off) and if I leave it unplugged overnight, it is dead in the morning. The way around this is to hold the power button and shut it down completely. This is again a minor inconvenience, but it would be nice if just clicking the button put it in a sort of hibernation mode vs seemingly just turning the screen off as this would substantially increase battery life when not in use. Overall I am thrilled with this console and love that I can play my childhood games again without being tethered to my computer for emulation.

Update the firmware before first boot!
First thing: It does not boot with the included memory card. You will have to manually update the firmware - you'll have to search for "update RG35XX H firmware" or go to Anbernic's website to get the file, but when you find it, they provide everything that you need to get the device updated in the zip folder. The microSD card that comes with the handheld is bugged - it seems like the seller is attempting to update the devices and might have a bad image that's being written to the SD. Because of this, it does not boot all the way on and sits at the company logo - again, make sure you write the current firmware image to your SD before using the device. I personally feel that this is not something directly related to the actual device. Even though I was annoyed that I had to do all of this to get it to start, I am giving it a fair review based on its actual function once it is working properly. With that out of the way - this little console is a budget powerhouse! It runs all of the basic games from the PS1 era and earlier, and I've not ran into much trouble with Dreamcast games. It has major slowdowns and choppiness on some N64 games, but most run well. I wasn't expecting it to be much more than a retro-home console emulator. For that, it's perfect. The joysticks feel almost exactly like Switch joysticks. They have a nice pull, they're sturdy, and the 'click' is satisfying. The other face buttons (such as the D-Pad and A/B/X/Y) are a nice spongy texture. Shoulder buttons have a nice click to them, with four shoulder buttons, L1/R1 and L2/R2.The screen is beautiful and vibrant, gets bright, and has a nice "dim" mode as well. The body size of this thing is perfect for pockets, but only if it's the only thing in that pocket. It comes with a screen protector, however the edges of the screen are rounded and the screen protector eventually lifts at the edges. The back of the device has two 'pads' where your fingers can grip it while playing, which is nice, but it catches in the pocket sometimes. The sound comes out loud through the bottom, and has a nice pop and bass to it.I dig it! I'd fully recommend it for someone looking for an affordable handheld with joysticks!
