LOVE THIS BOOK
LOVE THIS BOOK!While I was born in Southern California and raise in Southern Maine, I moved south as soon as I was able. This book is hilarious, insightful and explained so much of what I have experienced living in the deep south. What a great sense of humor the authors have. The book made me realize that while Southern mothers may have a list of rules they live by and instill in there daughters (and sons), "the rules" were very similar to the many rules lessons my grandmother and her many friends instilled in me "up North". I may be a damned Yankee, but this was a wonderful book and helped me to understand a number of social encounters I have had while living in the South. A very enjoyable, funny, and insightful book which made me realize my upbringing had more in common with the South than I had realized. And yes the recipes are to die for. Thank you so much for sharing. If you are from any other part of the country and would like a good chuckle and learn about the wonderful culture of the South....READ THIS BOOK!

Fun read, but with one not-so-tiny flaw
The stories are such fun, and the recipes bring back memories! However, the Children of the American Revolution is not led by regents at any level: the local, state, and national organizations all have member Presidents advised by Senior Presidents (members of DAR, SAR, or SR). And the local organization is called a Society, not a Chapter. Regent and Chapter are DAR terms, not C.A.R. (And note that the periods are always used. Thanks for a good read, though!Laura Bratcher PageHonorary Senior State PresidentAlabama Society, Children of the American Revolution

It's Great to be from the Delta, Mississippi, and Southern!!
I have bought every one of Gaydens books. I can not wait till the next one comes out. I came from the Delta where these books were written about. I can see myself at some of these events (in the late 60's early 70's)!! I buy these books for gifts. Stories are great: Recipes are so easy to follow and they are exactly what I cooked in my younger years! I have been cooking different ones for my husband now. I Love All of the books, but to me Being Dead is no Excuse seems to be the Best, but it is hard to tell. I Love them All. In Some Day You'll Thank----So Many of the sayings are exactly what my Mother and Aunt would say. Read All the books if you want many hous of entertainment and easy, great recipes!I always pick up one of the books when I am feeling down, for a laugh, you will get one too. Don't forget to send for Gifts!!

Something every Woman should teach her family and be taught as child. Southern or Northern.
Every child should be brought up in with these manners. Manners are a lost art.

laugh
Mothers are so much smarter than than their daughters know. Unfortunately, they donโt figure this out until theyโre grown and have their own children. The book hits all the right chords in a really humorous way!

Worthwhile Recipes
I always look forward to a new book in Metcalfe's southern humor series. Her wickedly witty BEING DEAD IS NO EXCUSE made me laugh out loud. This book, however, is probably the weakest of the group. Although parts of it had me nodding my head and thinking, "that's like my mama, all right," I found that some of the chapters rambled and the humor seemed to fall a little flat. Maybe we southerners just can't find it in our hearts to poke more than a little gentle fun at mama. The recipes look absolutely yummy!

I enjoyed the humor and the wit
I enjoyed the humor and the wit. The narrator's southern drawl added to the overall experience of the audio. The recipes included are to die for!
