Limited vinyl LP pressing includes 12 x 12 insert. Pinkerton is the second studio album by band Weezer, released on September 24, 1996. After abandoning plans for a rock opera titled Songs from the Black Hole, Weezer recorded Pinkerton between songwriter Rivers Cuomo's terms at Harvard University, where he wrote much of the album. To better capture their live sound, Weezer produced Pinkerton themselves, creating a darker, more abrasive album than their 1994 self-titled debut. Cuomo's lyrics express disillusionment with the rock lifestyle; the album is named after the character BF Pinkerton from Giacomo Puccini's 1904 opera Madama Butterfly, whom Cuomo described as an "asshole American sailor similar to a touring rock star". Like the opera, the album contains references to Japanese culture.

Pinkerton over blue album any day
One of the best albums from weezer (to be fair there's only like 4). Just my type of music from finish to end and the ending song closes the album like a novel.

Career High
I donโt think Weezer have been or will ever be as good as they were on this album. After the almost fluffiness of the Blue one, this definitely caught me off guard with its gritty, sometimes downright grubby lyrics and frankly sometimes incel kinda vibe but look past that and the songs are all about that universal experience, about finding love, whether it be the unrequited, inappropriate or the absolutely hopeless kind.Itโs marvellous. Play it loud.

Brilliant, but VINYL DOES NOT contain TWO discs as described
Love this album and have owned it on CD for years.Saw this vinyl was available and was intrigued to see it had listings for two discs!I contacted Amazon to confirm this was the case (they confirmed it was), but the item only contained one disc. The MP3 version (which comes along with the Vinyl purchase) does contain the second disc with extras, but just be aware that with the vinyl, you're only getting one disc.

Wow!!
Well I didn't expect this! For someone who rates the Blue Album extremely highly, I was surprised to find myself prefering Pinkerton over their debut album, but I really do! Pinkerton has a much rockier sound than the Blue Album, which I prefer, and the drumming in particular is fantastic. There isn't a weak track, but standouts include The Good Life, Across the Sea, Tired of Sex and the closer Butterfly. I really don't understand why this album wasn't better received when it was first released. Highly recommended.
