I typically wouldn't go above 10 or 11 on the high end and I'd try to stay in the 40's on the low end. But each brand will have their own gauges so I'd look around at brands like Earny Ball and D'addario **Q: What is the life of these? D'addario and others rust in a day or break on me.** A: Excellent. These do not rust up on me like Ernie Balls. I use a string lube/cleaner and can go a few months before I decide to change them out, only broken a handful of strings in the past few years. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great strings! *by K***L on March 8, 2026* Great strings! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent! *by C***P on February 24, 2026* Will be buying more of these Great sound & playability. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "the strings of strength" is not a lie *by J***K on June 13, 2025* I was looking for 9-46 set for a 25.5" scale that had just a bit more tightness on the low and high e strings, but without having to move up in gauge sizes. These strings do hold up a bit more to hard picking. They are a bit more tense than Ernie Balls and regular DR's like Pure Blues, both of which become significantly floppier on the second day once they're broken in. The feel is extremely natural. It is a treated string, not a coated string, so there is no visible polymer coating. There is a slight reduction of friction which reduces sliding noise and reduces callusing, and callusing itself is what causes that squeak. So these are truly excellent strings and they are as Dime apocryphally described them as, the strings of strength. In some cases you might want looser strings.
