It does not require electricity. It works via gravity. Simply pour water in top compartment, it filters to lower jar.The water tastes fine. There is no bad smell I have been using since past 5 years. Simply clean entire filter every few weeks.

does it purify bore well water?

No, it's for tap water only. You have to buy RO water purifier for bore well water.
