Outstanding
I've been looking forward to this commentary on Joseph for some time and I'm happy to confirm it does not disappoint. This is not a dry academic offering from a professor, rather it sits in a very comfortable half-way house between academic learning and a devotional for the follower of the carpenter from Nazareth. There is probably just the right amount of background information re: ancient history and middle eastern culture to give a backdrop to the Joseph narrative. The author draws out some beautiful insights from the Genesis account, his commentary on Leah, Joseph's aunt, is very touching. There is a lot of truth in here and several times I found myself nodding in easy agreement with the author. All too often I asked myself why does Genesis 37-50 not tell us more (on specific subjects), so I was encouraged the author was asking the same questions. This commentary from Professor Lennox is not hard to recommend. For further reading I suggest:Charles Swindoll. Great Read for Tough Times
Though a professor of mathematics - and at no less eminent an institution than Oxford University - John Lennox is truly a first-rate theologian and Christian apologist."Joseph," much like his study of Daniel in "Against the Flow," is a clarion call to Believers to fully trust in our loving Heavenly Father, especially in the midst of trouble: "Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you" (I Peter 5:7). We made plenty of notes in the margins to refer to later, because this book - and its fresh look at Joseph's life - will no doubt serve to buoy our faith in a future time of testing.

excellent exposition
The influence of David Gooding is less obvious here than in his, also excellent, book on Daniel. This is a very helpful exposition of the story of Joseph and will be a help to preachers and general Christian readers alike.

Great insight give to an already great story
John Lennox is one of my favorite Christian Apologists to listen to. I've read several of his books, but Joseph takes the cake. The story of Joseph of Egypt is one of the most inspiring stories ever penned. However, the insight brother Lennox gives to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph and Jesus is unparalleled. If you want to better understand the 'seed project' and how Joseph dealt with adversity and power, this books is the go to book. Thank you Dr. Lennox. I look forward to buying and reading your book on Daniel. I pray you will write more of these books on the major prophets and on our Lord Jesus Christ. We need your insight.
