THORFIRE Hand Crank Camping Lantern 2 Pack,2-in-1 Collapsible LED Light

This cool little flashlight/lantern is very neat. You pop up the lantern part and it really puts out light. In a pitch dark 10x10 room it lights it up bright enough to see every corner. The brightness is very impressive. It has two levels, low and high. Honestly, the low level is pretty bright so I would save battery most times and use low. If you do not extend the lantern this is also a flashlight. It is bright but does not direct light pointedly, so would not make a great flashlight for distance. However, even without the lantern extended, the light is pretty bright. I put the light higher up on something so it reflects like back off the ceiling. It can be charged with USB plug or crank. I have only used the USB at this point and it charged pretty quickly. So far I have used that charge for about 3 hours and it is still nice and bright. I will update review after using for a few months. Overall, so far, very impressed. Enough so that I bought a second one for the boat (first one was for camping). I may pick up a couple more. And, I also want to try the crank once the light loses the first couple charges (want to cycle through a few charges first before doing the crank test). UPDATE: I have now used this light several times and it is simply amazing. I lights up a space the size of a tent perfectly AND lasts all night. I have recharged it and it is working wonderfully. I may pick up a couple more of these. They are super nice and perfect for what we need them for. I think they would also serve well in a power outage, if you happen to experience them in your area. The little handle lets you hang this wherever you need. I do find that you want the light higher toward a ceiling, letting the light bounce off and come back down.

This thing is amazing. When compressed into a puck, the spotlight coming from the top is extremely bright for what it is (rechargeable lithium LED lights) and can illuminate signs half a block away on high and across the street on low. When pulled apart into lantern form, the light is also very bright and can illuminate a room. It can look pretty ghastly when someone walks down a dark alley with this lantern held up high. The build quality is also fantastic. It feels rugged and hard and you can probably use it to bludgeon stalkers or robbers or annoying siblings with it. The orange color is awesome. Makes it extremely easy to find in the dark. The accordian lantern part seems tough enough to withstand repeated openings and closings. The power on button can be a bit difficult to find on the side, especially when the lantern is so bright. It would've been better placed at the bottom somewhere, so you can aim the light away from you when finding it. And as others have noted, the charging mechanism is a little daft. It uses its own USB-to-round thingy cable. If you lose that cable, you are screwed. The next version should just have two microUSB cables, one for in and one for out. I have not tested the phone charging capability or the little crank. Another thing that would be nice to have is an eyelet for a lanyard on the side. I've been using a wrist strap tied to the crank handle and it works fine and is great for holding up the lantern, but in puck mode, it opens up the handle and just isn't very expedient to being carried around. I would also love if they could reduce the thickness. I can sort of manage, barely, shoving it in my shirt pocket. With cargo shorts it will fit in one of the large pockets but it won't be comfortable. It's mostly the thickness that is the issue. Overall thoguh, for the cheap price (I used a coupon) I was very surprised at the quality and attention to detail for this product and its many useful attributes.

So far so good. Going to be used for hammock camping and emergency power outages. I wouldn’t abuse them though.

This is a great little tool that's well worth the money. We lost power for about 45 minutes within a week after receiving mine and, believe it or not, I could tell it really helped make the situation less stressful for my 84 year old mother and her friend. First, because I think it gives plenty of light and that alone set them at ease but, as I showed them how the crank worked, I could tell their confidence in this unit grew and they felt they could trust it to provide light and thus, to them, the feeling of safety for as long as needed. Their focus went from the emergency to this "new gadget" and that really helped them cope. I'm not a camper but it's the perfect companion to have for just such an occassion and was my primary reason for buying it. I really wanted a light that negated the need for batteries and something that would be ready to go whenever needed. Even battery operated devices can fail for a number of reasons when the time comes. I opted for the crank version for just that reason. Being an LED light, it's amazing how long the light will work with just a short amount of cranking. There are two light levels, pressing power once turns on low, pressing it again turns on high and a third press turns it off. The LED gives good output even on the lowest level. When the light is collapsed, the light is directional and acts as a flashlight with two brightness settings. Used as a flashlight, it's beam isn't focused as narrowly as a normal flashlight but it's directional enough to do a good job over a short distance. But opening the "corrugated" lens turns it into a lantern with two brightness levels for lighting a relatively small area, which is how I used it during the power outage. It lit the kitchen sufficiently to give us the freedom to get up and move around the room safely. Apparently the unit is pretty airtight because to open, or close, the lantern you need to open the cover for the charging port so that air can move in and out as needed to permit it. The charging port can be used to charge the unit's battery by using the provided cable to connect to a USB port on a USB charger or a computer. Otherwise you rotate the crank handle, which stows away very nicely when not in use, at about 3 revolutions per secondto charge the unit's battery and it doesn't seem like you need to crank it very long to provide an hour's worth of light. It has a very handy handle that pivots open so, like most laterns, you can hang it up to light an area which is how I used it during the outage. Even though it's plastic, it seems pretty sturdy and because of the battery it does have a little weight. The crank feels like it's a good quality and it's very easy to use. Even though it feels sturdy for the most part, I guess time will tell how durable the accordian lampshade will prove to be. But I highly recommend this unit and am very glad I decided to get it. It proved to be the perfect tool to have during the outage and, in addition to providing light, if you connect the USB cable to a cell phone for example and use the crank, you can use it to charge the phone enough to probably be used for short periods. I plan on buying one or two more.

This is a great product. I bought it for power outages. It is small and compact and very versatile. You can charge it or you can crank it. It will also charge your phone. It is bright enough to sit on table and be able to see in the dark. Very easy to use and it looks great. Can't wait to use it.

We have used both charger plug in and the hand crank. Both work great. (These are not solar powered) They are hand crank and plug in charger ONLY. I bought my first one in 2022. It still works but the plastic part for the lantern broke over time so now it's just the flashlight. To be fair, we used the heck out of it and we were aggressive opening it over and over. The important thing is it still working great. I haven't noticed if theres been a loss in power life. ya, idk I just can't tell I guess. I'm not timing it though. I bought the second one in 2023. What can I say we wanted another one. Still works great. The lantern part that broke on the first one, hasn't broken on the second one so still works. I bought another one today because we wanted to make sure we had one for our tent and so the both of us each had our own. :) Our power went out for 3 days from an ice storm and these things saved us from being in the dark. I still need to buy a generator but hand crank did the job just fine. Really, the hand crank is super EZ and quick. Plus, if you want you can plug other stuff into them and use it as a charger. I'm not a fan of that though.. Just buy a mini solar generator imo. Overall, I will be buying these till I can't find them anymore. Great product and very happy with them.

I used these for a few camping trips and they worked great! Good amount light, battery lasted the whole trip, and I love having the crank option if the battery runs out. It was easy to turn, even for my 6 year old.

This lantern is really better suited to a home emergency kit than something you'd take outdoors. The little rechargeable battery in it is very small. It runs on high for about 40 minutes, on low for 4.5 hours. Then you have to crank the little dynamo for several minutes to recharge it. If you are going backpacking, it is way too big and heavy for what it is. You could easily carry a small backpack lantern and a spare set of batteries with a lot less weight and room in your pack. If you are going car camping you don't really care about weight or size and so you can get bigger, better lanterns (although they would cost a whole lot more than this). On the other hand, in an emergency, this provides essentially unlimited amounts of light even if you exhaust whatever batteries you have on hand, Although it would take forever, you can also recharge your cell phone using the little dynamo and the included cable. It would probably take hours of grinding on the dynamo to put a meaningful amount of zip back into your phone, so the phone charging really is an emergency-only option. After grinding it for a few minutes, you are ready to stop. So the dynamo is fine to keep the light on, but you would definitely not enjoy fully charging a modern smart phone with this thing. Also note that the dynamo is the only way to charge your phone. The battery is reserved for running the light and it is so small it wouldn't provide enough power to the phone to much matter anyway. It is reasonably well built given the very modest price. The outside is a sort of rubbery coating, and I actually dropped it accidentally from about 3 feet onto a hard tile floor without incident, so it isn't junk. The little flexible shade is cheap and will probably rip at some point and the battery is non-replaceable so when it dies the thing is done. Fortunately you can plug it in to any USB to recharge the battery - you don't have to use the dynamo. You have to keep the battery topped off by grinding the dynamo or plugging it in periodically. If you just throw this in a drawer and forget about it, chances are the battery will be discharged and ruined when you go to use it. You also must carefully hang on to the little proprietary cables it uses. They are USB on one end, but the part that goes into the lantern itself is proprietary. Of the three versions of this, I think the only one worth considering is this one. The solar power one isn't as flexible as the dynamo (what if you need power and it is night or the sun isn't shining?) and I would get something smaller or larger if I was getting one that just ran on regular batteries. Probably the sweet spot for this is somebody living in an apartment. Someone without a lot of room for emergency supplies that just needs a way to make light and possibly charge their phone in an extended power outage. For how little it costs, it is a nice piece of kit. Just realize that its best use is definitely not backpacking. It would be an ok choice for car camping. I probably wouldn't hand it to a kid, because I cannot imagine that flexible sleeve would survive much rough treatment.

great litte lattern, a little flimsy but lasted so far.

I now buy some as gifts for family and friends. I use two side by side as a lamp to read when the power outage is in the evenings. I keep one in the bathroom all the time in case the power goes out when I'm in the bathtub (which happened once, and it was DARK!). The plug-in lights that I used before got very hot and I felt they were unsafe.

Very cool. Seems well made and the light is nice and bright, especially on the higher setting. The extending bellows to make a lantern seems to be a high-grade plastic so should last a while, but I expect that will be the part that fails first--hopefully not for a couple of years or so. Works great as a flashlight and very well as a lantern. You can actually read by it! The initial charge seems to be lasting a long while. Will have to see how it does on future charges and how the crank works. I hope not to need the crank, but I'm glad to have it and the ability to charge my cell phone with it should that be needed.

Einzige Schwäche: Der Balg (dieses Knickding) ist so steif, dass er gerne die Lampe im zusammengestauchten Zustand wieder selbstständig aufdrückt.

Saludos. He de comentar que el producto lo recibí en excelentes condiciones, tanto el empaque como su contenido sin daño alguno y con rapidez. Así mismo lo he probado ya varias semanas y he cargado celulares, tablets con ella sin problema, la palanca del dinamo es de buen material. Se debe aclarar que los materiales del productos son buenos pero no blindados por ello recomiendo un estuche rígido para protegerlo de golpes, lo he probado en el bosque en oscuridad total y he calculado que su alcance de iluminación es de unos 100 mts. Respecto a su posición de lámpara de iluminación perimetral es muy buena he útil de unos 5 mts. La recomiendo ampliamente para todo tipo de usos, práctica y su tamaño es muy versátil.
