To perform well on the SHSAT, students need a lot more practice than what is available online from the test makers. Luckily, the Tutorverse SHSAT workbook is the perfect companion and supplement to the official tests. The 1,000+ practice problems available in this book are organized by type, which allows for focused, targeted drilling of students' weak areas. Not only are the math problems arranged by topic - absolute value, word problems, percents, fractions, circles, triangles, etc - but even the logic questions, which students typically struggle with, are broken up by problem type. Thus, students who struggle with finding missing assumptions in arguments, or who have difficulty with the "code" questions on the SHSAT, can find an abundance of practice problems of that specific type. Best of all, this book contains 57 scrambled paragraphs. As an SHSAT tutor, I know how difficult this section is for students, and that the questions are worth double what every other question on the test is worth. This resource has been invaluable to me to build my students' skills and confidence with not only this difficult section of the test, but with each and every section.The writers at the Tutorverse clearly have years of experience preparing students for the SHSAT. In my 12 years of classroom teaching and private tutoring, I have purchased countless test prep books. I know what I like and don’t like in a test prep book and I absolutely LOVE this one!The diagnostic in the beginning is a full-length test which is a wonderful way to introduce students to the format of the actual SHSAT exam. Answers with detailed explanations are provided, as well as the question’s topic so students and tutors can gauge strengths and weaknesses.In lieu of pages of “lessons” (that are usually neither student-friendly nor comprehensive in test prep books), the authors packed 250+ pages with test-like questions organized by the same topics from the diagnostic answer key so students and tutors can decide which areas to focus on. All the grammatical and mathematical rules, formulas, and test-taking strategies needed to be successful are clearly explained.With over 1,000 practice questions, comprehensive explanations, expert advice, and practice exams (which accurately reflect the 2017 redesign), this book has it all!

I implore every one of my test prep students to practice, practice, practice. In order for them to succeed, not only do they need good instruction, but also they need good material to supplement that instruction. I can confidently assign work from The Tutorverse's SHSAT book knowing that my students will exercise the lessons learned during session. Each question is carefully written and has a detailed answer explanation in the back of the book. With over 1,000 practice questions, this book compiles the key concepts tested by the SHSAT (updated to reflect the 2017-18 changes!). There's a diagnostic test at the beginning of the book and a practice test at the end so each student can trace her progress, and with regular practice aided by The Tutorverse's book, I'm sure she will be happy with the results. I know I have been.

There are very few resources for this test, unfortunately. This book is better than nothing, but there are a ridiculous number of typos all over the book. The editors were so careless that when they updated to a 3rd edition, it originally said "3nd edition" because it was just too much work to change it from "2nd" to "3rd" correctly.The answers in the back sometimes give you the wrong letter. This is especially frustrating for students who diligently check their answers after doing the questions. I'm a private tutor and one of my students actually cried while doing her homework because she couldn't understand why the answer was B rather than A. Turns out she was 100% correct, but the lazy proofreaders gave the wrong letter in the key in back.

Pros: I've looked through the official handbook released in june by the doe and must say that the questions in this book are quite similar to those in the handbook. The book is really useful for helping students practice different topics, especially for students who need an introduction of more practice in those areas.Cons: since the doe released their official handbook, I see even more how accurate the content is, but the book does need to update their practice tests to reflect the abcd/efgh multiple choice options. Also, the grid in math questions are at the beginning, not the end. I've had the book since April, so I can only assume they'll update, though these are minor.

As an English Teacher who works with students practicing for the SHSAT test, I am always looking for supplementarymaterial to use with my students. Tutor verse serves that purpose. It is a well-organized, easy to use text that isgeared to the skills needed for the test. I recommend this book. Further, I was impressed with the customer service representative who was truly helpful in resolving a problem I raised. The company wants you to be satisfied with their product and you will be.

The book seems well organized and appears that it will help my daughter prep for the test. Apparently the question 1001 appears on the title page as “Find the mistake.”

This is a good book if you need practice. Beware as it does not explain any concepts. Only buy for the extra practice.
