Better than the first, but ultimately a little disappointing.
Going into this one, I didn't think there was any way they could fit the entire rest of the story into only one more novel. I was proven wrong, but it does unfortunately come at a price. The original story of the game has been butchered, events removed and new ones added, skipping over large sections of the material from the game. On top of this, it's clearly very rushed. Some story pieces don't go far enough while unnecessary ones go too far and, just like the first book, it is packed with spelling mistakes and unpleasant writing techniques. Aside from those flaws, the book is relatively enjoyable, especially near the end. If you read the first and enjoyed that, you'll enjoy this one too.

Maelstrom
The second in this series carries on immediately from the end of book one. It is an exciting novel that switches between several characters as it ratchets up the tension before the final climax.

An interesting Sequel.
This book continues on from the previous book "Worlds on Fire" by the Same Author. If you haven't read the first one, I would first of all recommend going and doing that first. I personally like the writing style of both books which mixes dramatic tense along with a nice knack for describing the fight sequences along with the tense cool-down periods. The story brings in some new characters and some new locations such as the underground water lab, and for the most part manages to keep the reader (From my experience) engaged. I always wanted to know the next outcome, what was the next thing the Marines had to deal with, what was Dr. Bertruger doing next, what had the underwater research scientists figured out.I found it a really enjoyable read and would recommend it to anyone who has read the first book, or is a fan of the video-game DOOM or even video-game based books in general. If you're also a fan of actiony-horror books, this and the predecessor might also peak your interests. Finally, in-case anyone is wondering; this does somewhat follow on from the DOOM 3 video-game in some aspects. Some parts differ and some parts are pretty similar. This was my question before I started reading these books, and I am glad I have read them.
