You can only re-insert the hasp to lock it when the numbers are set to the combination. Otherwise, the hasp will not drop into the lock body. There is no sound or feel when the lock is set. The one negative I had was that the numbers on the dials are not painted, and I found it hard to read the numbers. Sure, easy solution, just add some nail polish or paint to the numbers. These are definitely light duty and I would say, only meant to deter the casual miscreant. They do however, achieve the goal of securing a gun case for legal transportation of firearms and ammunition.
