A proper firestarter
I bought this to light my wood burning stove, but I’m sure it would work well for barbecues which is probably its intended purpose. The thing is an absolute beast compared with the electric fire lighter I owned previously for starting woodburning stoves. You have to pay attention to it while it’s working, but it has things blazing within a matter of minutes.

OMG
Where has this been all my life? Lighting the fire has become super easy and quick now, getting up to temperature in minutes. It has the added benefit of warming the flue making the fire more efficient and drawing smoke away quickly. It is however a little larger than I expected, so storage could be a problem. Also I'd love to see it ship with a heatproof mat to rest it on while it cools down.

Quite good but I think I preferred the original
The good - Gets a bit hotter than the original for initial lighting (takes just a few seconds) - Powerful blower to fan the coals after lighting to spread the combustion (like "drawing" a coal fire) The less good (for me) - Original one had a better hanging clip (which is unique to where I store mine) - Original one blew hot air to fan the flames which works better with the weird charcoal I currently have.

Looftlighter 2
It works incredibly well, very powerful and gets the coals in my Kamado Joe alight in a minute. Major advantage over many other similar fire starters is not having to hold lock switches on with your fingers whilst using it and of course that it produces 760c temperature for a powerful start. My unit had some minor cosmetic marks on the heat shield so contacted Looft directly to inform them (they have no phone numbers so have to fill in a web form on their site). Replied within 2 hours and had dispatched a replacement shield which arrived within 2 days - that’s fantastic customer service.

This thing melted on my second time using it
lol. If i spent £20 on this and the thing melted on my second time using it I wouldn’t mind. But I spent £150. The end of it has totally melted! I want a refund on this

Quick and easy!
Works really quick. Great clean way to light your charcoal on a Kamado Joe.

A light sabre for the lounge log burner
Well, I saw some reviews and demonstrations on YouTube using the Looft Air Lighter for lighting coals, charcoal, wood and briquettes but I was curious if it could be used on a log burner so i had to request one to test and try out. It certainly does work. A couple of sheets of newspaper scrumpled up and placed underneath some wooden kindling with logs on top. This took in less than a minute and the forced air kept the heat localised so the kindling took light followed by the logs. This was super quick, very effective and more importantly, no need for firelighters which is great (the paraffin can cause a mess in the hearth). I believe this wand comes in two flavours, corded and cordless. This one is corded but the cord is of sufficient length to reach the mains socket. Do be aware that this draws 1800watts. That is pretty significant and might be too much for a cheap extension cable that might only be rated at 10amps (or less). The wand and a cheap extension would be a recipe for disaster. Obviously you would not have this worry if it was the cordless version. Also, understandably the tip gets very very hot indeed. There is a hook on the back that will allow you to hang it in a safe place after use but do be aware it is far too hot to touch (think children / animals). I really do like this, it is very useful and the wand itself really is huge ! I do have a slight issue with the asking price though as you can buy an awful lot of matches for £150. But the novelty and convenience makes this a cool gadget to have.

No more blowing on charcoal!
Looft Air Lighter 2 is definitely bringing a whole new level to starting up a BBQ or a fireplace. This powerful electric lighter takes absolutely no time to get the fire going. This device reminds me a little bit of a more powerful version of a heat gun. Crank it up and wait around 30 seconds and you will start seeing a bit of smoke followed shortly by fire. The version I used is corded so you have to bare that in mind if you want to use it in the garden. You would definitely need a decent power extension lead that can deal with the power of the lighter. This isn't the smallest device but it is pretty sleek and easy to store. As the tip gets mega hot I leave it on the side of BBQ table on a tray to cool down away from our dogs being able to get to it. Overall this is a great tool if you will use it a lot. I've calculated that the amount of firelighters we buy over the summer for BBQs will pretty much pay for this electric lighter in one year. We do like a good BBQ though. Fantastic device, easy to use. The only star I took off is for the fact that when I received the lighter it looked as if someone's already used it ! The tip had a sign of it being on in the past.

This will last!
This is the lighter you need. This one will last. We have had a few cheap models that melted the aluminum cover, motor stopped blowing air and most annoying ON button that hurts your finger. This is more expensive but really works well. We use it approximately 4 times pr week.
