Works great for what its designed for
I use it to clean out all the ash out of the smoker and it works amazing for that. Wont work as a regular vaccuum because it doesnt have much suction power, but wont clogg or break when you suck up all the little particles.

you want one of these - super happy
Really happy with this.makes what is usually a horrible job easy.filter works great and is easy to clean and reinstallsince it's a mesh bag you can transfer into a waste container without spillage (always a hassle)good suction powerit's a practical capacity (not too small, not unwieldy big...given how ash spreads, that's important)great if you've got a pllet grill/stove to get into fire pot or nooks, crannies (lso good for trad fireplace of course)ALWAYS REMEMBER TO MAKE SURE YOUR ASHES ARE COLD COLD COLD (I suggest emptying into a metal can away from structures)

Really good, I would recommend!
There was another reviewer that said he had a hole in the fabric and so did I, I had two little holes, for me that’s not a big deal. I didn’t like the awful metallic scraping sound it made as I dragged it over different surfaces (probably because it’s like an empty empty drum, it just really resonates any sound) so I slit a piece of (.250” OD x .170” ID) (you can zoom in on the photo ) polyethylene tubing and rolled it onto the bottom edge. So far I haven’t needed to glue the tubing onto the steel, it just stays on there by itself, so far! This is by no means a negative review I love this thing. I bought this for my mother to clean her woodstove, she has this cumbersome awkward system of cleaning her woodstove and I thought I would help her simplify the process, if she isn’t so proud that she refuses to use it I think she’ll really like it! She didn’t whine and complain and b*tch and moan so that would seem to indicate to me that she loves it (I cleaned her stove myself this first time as a trial run to see how effective it is.)I was a little surprised when I looked inside the flexible tube and saw that it was metal! Bravo!I thought I had read somewhere in the description or the comments that the fabric filter was some type of polyethylene and I was disappointed and I thought I would rig up some kind of aluminum fly screen over top of the (“polyethylene”) fabric, but after I ordered it I read in the product description that it’s actually woven fiberglass! That was a tremendous relief! Tremendous! No worries whatsoever of any stray hot embers melting holes through the fabric! It seemed to bog down a little bit towards the end of the job, I would recommend to anyone to buy the larger of the two, I got the smaller one because it was on sale, but I would recommend anyone buy the larger one. I didn’t remove and tap clean the pleated filter but I think I probably should have, I’m a little surprised it seems like it might have to be cleaned after every use which is not a big deal I’m not at all disappointed, I think I just assumed that I could use it six times (say, like my shop vac) before I had to clean the filter. It just seemed like it didn’t have the same amount of suction as when I first started with the brand-new clean filter. That’s pretty subjective though, your results may vary considerably.I like it a lot!

Extremely Weak Suction
I bought this vacuum to help clean my pellet stove, but I’m disappointed by its performance. It’s suction is so weak I have to use my other mini-vac to pickup the slack. This vacuum has trouble just picking up loose pellets, and it leaves ash in the hard-to-reach corners of the fire box where good suction is a must.It comes with a long, metal hose attachment that is supposed to help in those hard-to-reach places, but in my experience it only makes the suction weaker. And because this attachment is so lengthy and un-bendable, it’s useless in confined spaces. On the other hand, my spare mini-vac has much better suction, and will clean out the pellet stove to perfection. It comes with a cloth and a foam filter. Its attachment is very short with a narrow opening. This gives it maneuverability and increased suction in tight spaces. I can’t say the brand name, but you know it well (think Viking guy holding a shield). And it sells on Amazon for only a couple bucks more.Of course my spare mini-vac (it’s really a small wet/dry shop vac) doesn’t make a claim for use on ash. For that you should use a micro-filter. But you can find micro-lined vacuum filters designed to fit it just about anywhere. Don’t make the same mistake I made. Go with the other brand.

Okay, not great
Was looking for something small to keep near the pellet stove so decided to give this a try.Pros:- it's small- did not see any dust come out of the exhaustCons:- Poor suction, this would probably be frustrating if it were used for a larger job. Daily is just okay- Short hose, it barely reaches the top of my pellet stove- Short power cord, you'll need to have an outlet very close or an extension cord handy4amps is clearly not enough, but for daily use it seems just okay, though the lack of suction makes it border on annoying by the time I'm done.

Great Customer service and an equally good product
The first vac I received died after about 15-20mins of use. I contacted the customer service abd they sent me a replacement at no cost! The 2nd one has been chugging along with zero issues. It is not super powerful but it is only meant to clean up ash, not remove the paint from your house.Works great in my wood stove (once things cool doen obviously). I would highly recommend this vac to cut down on the amount of ash flying through your house! Quicker and cleaner than a broom and dust pan and super light weight!

Effective and easy to use
I have several Snow Joe devices around my house, and they have worked effectively. Usually, when it come to cleaning out my wood fireplace, I've used shovel and brush, but inevitably it makes a mess, so looking for a better solution I came across this ask vacuum and, pretty much hoping for the best, bought it. I am glad I did.The Ash Vacuum is a fraction the size of a standard shop vac, and quite easy to carry around. There's a snap-on lid with electrical cord (long enough to reach pretty much to any plug, although not removable), as well as a hose about three feet long that twists into the vac body (to prevent ash blowing out) and a nozzle that attaches at the other end. inside the canister there's a mesh bag that seals the bottom of the canister (and the ash input) from the motor, keeping the ash trapped in the bottom. A second filter on the motor keeps any microparticles from clogging the blower unit (which sucks, not blows). There's instruction manuals, of course, but I managed to figure it out in a minute flat and put it to work right away on my fireplace, which had all last year's fire remnants plus so paper and wood fragments left in the fireplace. This ash vac did a great job on the ash, quickly cleaning it up without a single bit of ash leaving the vac. Any pieces of wood larger than about a half inch I manually picked out and threw away separately, and bits of paper went out manually, too, as I managed to clog the hose on paper-unburned wood twice before realizing I should just use the vac for ash. With that knowledge, I had the fireplace spotless in about five minutes. To empty the ash, I took the vac outside, removed the top and the filter bag, and simply scattered the ash. Reattaching everything, I was set to go two minutes later.I've used the ash vac only twice so far, but it's fantastic. I have kept my house clean of ash, the fireplace is neat and tidy, and I am really impressed with this vac. I can't recommend it highly enough for those who love wood fires and need to clean their fireplace.

Smoking hot vac!
This is a nice compact vacuum which is well designed for cleaning ash from my Voder pellet smoker. The construction is very solid and I think, represents good value for money. My only minor complaint is I felt the suction was not as strong as expected. However, it picks up ash and that’s exactly what I bought it for.

Great ash vacuum that does what it needs to do
Great ash vacuum, would like to have more attachments to get into the small nooks like under the auger chamber where it doent get fully. No exterior leaks when using vacuum that would spray ashes everywhere so its nice and clean to use. Simple to clean out when done as well. Well worth every penny over the small shop vac i was using before hand.

Very weak after a single use
Right out of the box, the product came with a filter missing. Snow Joe did send one - nice of them. After one light use cleaning cold ashes, the "full" indicator already filled up and there was not enough suction available. The outer filter was covered with ashes and was blocking the airflow path, making the unit kind of useless unless you clean the unit every minute of use - which makes it very unhelpful against a shovel and a bucket.I tried to return it as I was really dissatisfied, but Amazon don't accept returns and only provides partial refund.Unhappy with the product.

Not a shop vac, an ASH vac
This has exceeded my expectations. I'm new to running a pellet stove, used two different shop vacs on the ash, quickly got very frustrated with ashes blowing out the exhaust. Bought this thing, it works great! I wasn't expecting a lot of suction due to other reviews, but it has more than enough, provided its used on ash - it'll even pull up the 'chunks' once broken up by the hose end. Most importantly, there is NO fine ash blowing out the exhaust, the filters do their job well. One complaint, the aluminum tip is kinda useless, in my stove it's way too long to maneuver the hose to where the ashes pile up in the corners. A short skinny crevice vacuum attachment should be included for hard to reach areas.
