A Daily Dose of Deep Theology – Engaging, Rich, and Worship-Inducing
Daily Doctrine by Kevin DeYoung – A Must-Read for ChristiansMany books on theology and doctrine flood the shelves each year, but few are truly worth our time. Too often, they either oversimplify deep truths or bury them in academic jargon, making them inaccessible to the average believer. When I first heard that Kevin DeYoung—a pastor and theologian I respect—was releasing Daily Doctrine, I assumed it would be just another addition to the growing pile of modern theological books that I could safely ignore. But then something unusual happened.People whose theological discernment I trust—seasoned pastors, scholars, and faithful believers—began praising this book repeatedly. Their recommendations caught my attention, and after hearing about it over and over again, I finally gave in and purchased it. Now, after reading through over 55 days of this devotional, I can confidently say this: Daily Doctrine is a must-read for any Christian who wants to grow in their understanding of biblical doctrine in a way that is both substantive and accessible. What makes Daily Doctrine so impactful?- Depth Without Overload – DeYoung presents rich theological truths in a way that is profound yet digestible, never watering down doctrine but also never making it feel overwhelming.- Concise and Engaging – Each day’s reading is under 600 words, making it easy to incorporate into a daily routine without sacrificing depth.- Faithful to Historic Theology – Rather than relying on modern evangelical trends, DeYoung draws from the deep wells of church history, engaging with the insights of great theologians from the past.- Worship-Inducing – This book doesn’t just inform; it stirs the soul. Reading it leads not only to deeper knowledge but also to greater awe of God.Structure and ApproachThe book is designed as a daily devotional, with each entry focusing on a specific doctrine of the Christian faith. DeYoung systematically covers foundational truths—from the nature of God and salvation to key theological debates throughout church history. Despite the short format, each entry is rich in biblical insight and theological clarity, making it ideal for personal study, family devotions, or even small-group discussions. One of the book’s greatest strengths is how it balances theological precision with accessibility. DeYoung does not shy away from using technical theological terms, but he carefully defines them, ensuring that readers—whether new to doctrine or well-versed in theological study—can grasp their significance. As I’ve read through the book, I have found myself in awe of God’s attributes, marveling at His salvation, and gaining a deeper understanding of the theological debates that have shaped church history. Daily Doctrine does more than just educate—it leads to worship. This is more than many Bible students receive in a typical theology class, yet it is delivered in a way that is entirely approachable for any Christian.Final ThoughtsFew modern books on doctrine strike the balance of depth, clarity, and accessibility as well as Daily Doctrine. The last book that had such an impact on my theological reading was Joel Beeke’s Reformed Systematic Theology, a four-volume masterpiece. However, I find myself recommending Daily Doctrine even more frequently simply because of its accessibility. It is theologically rich yet easy to engage with, making it an ideal resource for both seasoned believers and those newer to doctrinal studies. If you are looking for a book that will lead you into a deeper knowledge of God and stir your heart to worship Him, Daily Doctrine is an excellent choice. I highly recommend incorporating it into your daily devotional time—Monday through Friday, or even every day of the week. It requires only a few minutes, but the truths within will stay with you throughout the day, challenging your thinking and strengthening your faith.Kevin DeYoung has once again proven himself a masterful teacher of doctrine, and this book deserves a spot on every believer’s shelf. Do yourself a favor—pick up Daily Doctrine today and embark on a journey of deep theological reflection that will enrich your faith and deepen your love for the Lord.

A daily feast
I ordered this book, planning to read a page daily, as a lead-in to my daily Bible reading/quiet time. I have found that I can’t read just one page. Even though I don’t want to go too fast, because I do want to really let it soak in, I can’t help reading at least several of the “dailies” each morning. While the book is in no way “dumbed down” (there are terms I need to look up and a good bit of Greek and Latin), DeYoung explains them in a way that is understandable, yet pushes me to ponder and think deeply. I can see how this book will delight a broad range of readers.I love the hard copy book… highlighting, making notes, and looking up a lot of the references to make additional notes. I’ve not been to seminary, but I love to read and study the Word. This book is adding depth and joy to my understanding and meditations on the Lord. I find myself thinking about what I’ve read throughout the day with wonder and often tying it in with my Bible reading for that day. What a treasure!

Super book for Theology overview
Love this book. Meaty but understandable. Kind of like a seminary Cliff notes as it delves into many topics but on a more brief level, so you can be exposed to Theological subjects, and if interested can choose to pursue some deeper.

Refreshing and so helpful
We got this for my dad as a Christmas present and decided we needed one too! My husband and I are reading it together this year and it’s been so refreshing. Each day is about a page and a half, with weekends off so you can go through it in a year. Kevin Deyoung clearly and simply explains one doctrine at a time in this treasure of a book.

Nice short reads
Being an author, I usually try and stay away from reviewing other books, but this one is an exception. I like the easy reading that can be had with just 30 minutes to spare. The words are insightful and well written. Once I'm done, I'll hand it off to my wife and then I'll probably go through it once again.

Great bite sized systematic theology overview
I am a lay person who has an interest in philosophy and theology. This book has great bite sized daily coverage of a single topic per day, well organized into various "loci." It's very well written and concise. 5 days per week is the pace for a year. Content is scripturally based where it make sense, with references. It is doctrinally sound from the perspective of an evangelical Christian. We are studying through it with a small group of guys from my church. Having read some philosophy and familiarity with Christian doctrine and scripture will be very helpful for reading this.
