WD Red Pro 6TB NAS 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - 7200 RPM Class, SATA 6 Gb/s, CMR, 256MB Cache, 5 Year Warranty

I purchased the 6TB WD Red Pro drive "dispatched and sold by Amazon", and had no issue registering it with Western Digital for their full 5 year warranty. For me the extra two years warranty over the standartd WD Red drives is worth the little extra you have to pay for the pro version. Plugged this straight into a free slot in my existing Synology NAS and had it added into the BTRFS storage volume in no time at all.

I bought several of these for my Drobo NAS a couple of months ago and they were very easy to install. They are quiet in operation and I am very happy with the transfer rates. They are quiter than my previous 5400rpm disks. I hope they last me several years to come.

Purchased to store 4k rips in a Zidoo Player. It does the job but the noise is audible. I have had to put the Zidoo Player on some sound absorbing stilts to lessen the noise. I have the player inside a TV cabinet/shelf that is roughly 10 feet from where I sit to watch TV or movies. The noise isn't unbearable but I can definitely hear it when no sound is coming from the TV. The noise is at a level that will sit underneath the TV volume once you have it on. Once a film is on and you have it at a decent volume you'll only really hear the disc drive noise at a very low background noise type level. For me it is certainly passable but if you are looking for a near silent drive then this is not it.

Both items arrived 2 days late and dead. One was vibrating like crazy and the other clicking continuously. The drives where packed in one box with a small foam block between them. I suspect they just kept hitting each other in transit.

Using for data storage and the extra space is great. Speed is good and installation into the desktop very easy. I've used WD drives for years and I've never had any problem with them. After four weeks use I've no significant complaints. It can be a little bit loud at times, but overall I'm very happy with this purchase.

bought this drive to replace a failed 4TB WD Red that just exceeded the 3 years warranty. My DS412+ took it in well, no complaints at all. Within a day the rebuild completed. Shipping was great and well within estimated time frame. [Update 16-Jun-2024] Do not buy this (and likely others too) HDD on Amazon.sg if it is sold by Amazon USA. I eventually bought 3 of these from Amazon.sg. In May 2024, 1 of the drives failed, and I discovered that WD will not provide RMA service as the unit is considered "OUT OF REGION". I am in Singapore, but the device was meant to be sold within the USA. WD advised to check with reseller, in this case Amazon.sg. Guess what? Amazon.sg is pushing it back to WD. Stating that the seller is 3rd party in USA, and they can't do anything. Funny how the product is sold by Amazon.com (USA).

Acheté pouir remplacer un WD RED5400 6To defaillant, qui a laché au bout de seulement 3 ans et demi. J'ai pris un modèle PRO pour eviter les soucis de references, et pour ne pas risquer de tomber sur un WD RED utilisant la technologie SMR. Le site WD explique bien les différences. Pour avoir du CMR, choisir Red Plus ou Red Pro. Aussi peu bruyant que ses collègue a 5400 trs, il fonctionne parfaitement. Comptez quand même quelques heures pour que le RAID se reconstruise, si vous êtes dans le même cas que moi. Pour le moment, je renouvelle ma confiance dans cette marque, j'espère ne pas avoir de mauvaises surprises.
