Mauk 1243 Pool Water Tester pH/Chlorine

I purchased this item about a month ago. We have someone taking care of our pool occasionally, using measuring strips to check the level of pH and Chlorine in the pool, and adding chemicals if needed. I wanted to have an instrument to check the levels independently.The unit comes only with an instruction book in German. I do not know German, I tried to locate the text on the Internet, so that I could translate it - no luck. So I ended up entering to the computer some parts of text which I thought were central to operation, and got those pieces translated. (You can imagine the fun one has in typing text in a language you do not know.) I now know enough to use the instrument.I am providing here my understanding of how the instrument works, and how it is operated. This is all derived from my incomplete translation of the manual and Google'ing about how these things work. However, I did not have the patience to translate the whole manual, and the untranslated parts include a lot of bold face text, some staring with "Achtung!" So do not blame me if my procedure below starts a nuclear reaction in your pool.I understand that the pH measurement is made by measuring the resistance to flow of electricity through the water sample. Lower pH means more acidic water, which is a better conductor. I checked this by adding some vinegar into the glass which contained the water, and the needle seemed to move in the right direction, but it seems like this is not a very sensitive measurement. (For this measurement, the knob is clicked into the off position, and the electrodes are inserted into the water sample.)For the Chlorine measurement, the water sample and the probe material form some sort of a battery, and the instrument checks how "strong" this battery is. Higher the Chlorine concentration, higher the battery action. However, you have to go through a calibration procedure to carry out this measurement: You take some low level chlorinated water (I used tap water) and measure its chlorine content using the test strip supplied with the instrument. This test tells you that your tap water has Chlorine content at the level A or B or C etc. Then you dip the instrument probes into this same water sample and use the adjustment knob on it so that the indicator needle also shows the same A - B - or C level you measured. Now that both the strip and the instrument show the same level for your sample, now you can dip the instrument probes into the pool water. It should indicate a higher level, with indications for low - normal - high.I do not think the test strip is reusable, but I guess you can assume that the Chlorine level in tap water is more or less stable so that measuring it once is enough. You will have to do this calibration process before every measurement.So overall, I guess the instrument is usable, and at this price level, do not expect very accurate measurements.

This device was bought to measure the ph of water. They were not as sensitive as i needed them to be.

il manuale inserito nella confezione è solo in tedesco e anche nel sito web del produttore non ci sono altri manuali in lingue diverse da scaricare,se un compratore non conosce questa lingua non può utilizzare l'apparecchio!!Chiedo per cortesia che mi vengano inviate le istruzioni per poterlo utilizzare.

Funktioniert einwandfrei bin sehr zufrieden erspare mir dadurch die Chemie um das Wasser zu testen mit Tabletten ist es umständlich

Je le saurai quand j'aurai compris le mode de fonctionnement.La notice (papier glacé) uniquement en allemand, n'est pas compréhensible pour moi.J'ai pu voir des produits très ressemblants même moins chers avec "explications" en français!Je me suis un peu précipité.J'espère que je n'aurai pas à le regretter.Vos commentaires exigent un nombre minimum de motsTrop contraignant

sans doute très pratique mais mode d'emploi en allemand, une version anglaise serait la bienvenue pour pouvoir utiliser le produit correctement
