Rain Bird TRU8O Program-Based Indoor/Outdoor Irrigation Controller/Timer, WiFi Ready, 8-Zone/Station

I bought this to replace our old Hunter controller that died after 28 years. It only took about 15 minutes to disconnect the wires from the dead controller and move them to this one. Setup was easy and it has been working well. We have 8 zones so this was a perfect replacement. Programming and operation is easy, With 8 zones in use you just move 10 or 12 wires plug it in and you are set. It looks nice even though it is in the garage.

Easy to install. Setup/programming is straight forward and much easier than the previous Rainbird controller it replaced. Functions as expected. Price is reasonable.

Works great! I have to emphasize that this programmer is hard wired with a plug, and it's made to be plugged into an outlet. My old programmer was hard-wired into my breaker panel. It didn’t need an outlet to plug into, and I don't have an outlet out there to plug into for this new one. My old one had a low voltage transformer wired into it, and the power came directly from the breaker box. To get power to this new unit, I had to remove the low voltage transformer from the old programmer and replaced the power plug in this new programmer with it. I had to open it up and rewire it. It was easy to do and it worked, but it should be emphasized that this programmer is designed and made to be plugged into a wall socket, not directly to a breaker box. Most people probably don't want to do this to a brand new unit they bought. Just a heads up.

Easy install, easy set up! This is replacing the controller that came with the house. I could never get the program right, it had a mind of it's own . I have had good luck with Rain Bird in two other houses and never a problem with the controller. This is a basic without Wi-Fi or Apps, and it works if you follow the instructions. I do not like the top screw mount, the bottom hole is thru the inside where you tighten but not the top. Other than that it is a good unit.

Purchased this Rain Bird TRU-80 Controller to replace an older Rain Bird Controller model. It was fairly easy to swap the old one out and install this one. I only needed a controller for 6-zones but this outdoor /indoor model has the capability of 8-zones and WiFi as an option. I didn't need anything else with more capabilities. It is easy to program with the step by step instructions included and mounting hardware - 2-screws and 2-plastic moly inserts. The 120V electrical power cord comes already attached to just plug in an outlet. Hooking up the wires for each zone is pretty straight forward. The LCD display visibility is good. This unit is a very good value for the features it has and the price. I recommend this unit which is Rain Bird's residential middle of the road model.

My husband likes the Rain-Bird over the Hunter controller. Much easier to program and works seamlessly with the existing Hunter equipment.

Why would the default settings be to water every day of the week for each program (e.g. A,B,C)??? So, you program A for 3 days and have no need for B and C. But guess what? You start watering every day of the week due to defaults for B and C!

I got this product on sale and got a really great deal (cyber monday, 1/2 off). I really love the controller- it's rock solid and simple to install. Mine is Outdoor and hardwired to power, so I just had to cut the male plug end off and strip the wires (not recommended unless you know what you're doing- voids warranty etc.). But I appreciate the Class II Double Insulated Construction (no ground cable), the ease of install and programming. But most of all, I know that this Rain Bird controller will outlast the last cheapo Orbit control I had that broke after only a few years.
