Motorcycle Dynamics

I have used this book extensively over the past three years whilst undertaking motorcycle engineering projects. It provides the best and most comprehensive explanation of the dynamic behaviour of a motorcycle I have found. B.S and hearsay are abundant in the field, whereas this is based entirely on experimental observations / derivations from traditional physics. There are a number of interesting translations from the original Italian version, however these are small and can be forgiven. An absolute must read for anybody who hopes to work with racing machines or is interested in how a motorcycle really works. Not an easy read, three years in and I still have to re-read passages a number of times to fully understand the content - not entirely a bad thing!

Great book, but only for engineers with good maths abilities.

This is effectively our Course book along with 'The Racing Motorcycle' by John Bradley. The Racing Motorcycle: v.2: A Technical Guide for Constructors: Vol 2. The maths is probably a bit much for most, so we just present simplified forms and illustrations, confident that we have solid proven theory on how bikes behave, to back up our training. Nearly all the theory on motorcycle handling is here. Vittore Cossalter has worked with KTM, Aprilia amongst others, and the tyre companies in the past, so has an impeccable background and knowledge.

This book is excellent for anyone interested in understanding how a motorcycle functions. It has detailed diagrams that break down all the equations into diagrams. This is the must have book for any vehicle dynamics module.

You get all the tools You need to understand and to compute the dynamic behaviour of a motorcycle. But it is necessary the reader has a good background in mathematics.

If you require information on motorcycle frame design it's for you, however the maths will take some understanding and extensive study. I would suggest the book should give an overview of the mathematics used before describing the dynamics required.

I learned lot from reading this book. Easily understandable, with just the right amount of explanation of equations and diagrams. Very useful in designing motorcycle frames.
