A classic score for a great film!
I think the previous reviewer has covered most of the points about this soundtrack, suffice to say that I am a soundtrack collector! The music to Replacement Killers is one of the finest I've heard. The beautiful calming melody to 'John's Theme' takes you to the point in the film perfectly. Or, if like me, you can muster images of your own.The music contained in this soundtrack takes you into the heart of the film itself, and through your 'mind's eye' will have you conjuring up images and scenes from the film the instant the tune starts.I highly recommend this soundtrack, especially if you have a 'taste of the Orient' in your imagination!!!

The Replacement Coaster
Probably THE worst score CD I ever did purchase.I bought it for £8 in an HMV clearance sale (as in no one was buying this trash) on Saturday November 7th 1998, which was quite a significant day for me. As soon as I got home I loaded the CD into my player, turned the lights off, and munched on my leftoever pick&mix from the cinema...only to be mortified.Noise. That's what's on this CD. Horrible, screeching, grinding din without an iota of grace or dignity. It's sad that there is only one good theme in this entire mess. Track 1 "John's Theme" introduces Chow Yun-Fat's character, and promises that the meagre 37-minute running time of this frisbee might be something special. It's a wonderful, emotional theme that really stays with you, but it only has a single other appearance in the score, repeated almost verbatim in track 9, and it's all completely undone by the aggravating noise that fills up the rest of this short album. It was with The Replacement Killers that I began to recognize the modern trend of blending the score with the sound design and needlessly perforating each cue with horible sound effects. Zimmer's now defuct Media Ventures (of which composer Harry Gregson-Williams was a part) popularized this lamentable method and this movie features it at its worst. I'm not sure if Gregson-Williams is a man of notable talent who squanders it on whatever trashy approach is common at the time or a man of no talent who got lucky with one good theme here. Either way, this coaster does not deserve to be given a home.Varese Sarbande album1. John's Theme (02:43)2. Stalked (03:58)3. The Temple (02:28)4. He Means Business (03:16)5. unbelievable compilation, fits film like a glove.
I got hooked with the Crystal method and Tricky tunes, fitted the film like a glove, throw in some rap/R&B, for good measure and u have one of the best soundtracks around. A would definitely put it up there with pulp fiction and Res Dogs soundtracks, for well placed tunes in a briliant action film and u can remember a scene when u listen to the tracks on their own, a classic.I never usually buy scores or soundtracks, either the score doesn't play well on it's own, or indie tracks overpower the film, which makes the film ,more like a pop video than i got piece of movie making. However, in the case, both were made for each other. i'd never heard the Crystal Method and Tricky tunes before, even if i had the tracks don't overpower the film, they flow along side it very nicelyYes, this is not a score, but a seperate track comp, but this film has a score also, which is great also(The composer did Metal Gear Solid 2 for playstation 2)The directors past work helped, being in music video circles,(checkout the spec features on the DVD video to find out more) which works like a dream in this case.I highly, highly and mean highly recomend this soundtrack, checking it out.paul - first soundtrack review
