Excellent camping griddle. Being carbon steel it's lighter than cast iron, but has all the same strengths, the tall sidewalls are actually very useful when cooking things like sausage links or hash browns etc. You need to season this pan just like you would for cast iron, but it's simple to do, it personally used grapeseed oil because of the high smoke point and the instructions actually say grapeseed is one of the best ones but you can use others as well, the handle is super secure and easily removed if you wanted to cook over an open fire, all in all this is a great griddle for the outdoors.

I really like this pan, but the top item description next to the pictures has multiple errors, likely leading to confusion and dissatisfaction. First off, this is a CARBON STEEL griddle pan. The description says both carbon steel and cast iron, but it is definitely not cast iron. Also, the description says something about a lid, but there is no lid with this pan. The lower description paragraph is more accurate, but may cause some confusion with its mention of the pan being “non-stick.” If you have never cooked with carbon steel, read about it before buying. I love it, but it does require a fair bit of preparation and a little ongoing maintenance. It must be seasoned properly before its first use. The internet is full of ways to do this, but one word of advice- put on VERY thin layers of high temp stable oil (not butter or lard-this leaves a sticky residue). I put on a layer, then wipe it off with a clean paper towel. The tiny bit that remains is all you want on there each time you heat up the skillet. Also, I have never had any luck with the method that says to put on one layer and bake at high heat (or put on a grill) for an hour. The coating is always uneven. I prefer putting on multiple thin layers. Once the skillet is properly seasoned, cooking with it is great and the surface become fairly non-stick. The nonstick properties improve over time if you take care of your skillet. It heats much faster and much more evenly than cast iron. Clean up is similar to cast iron, so no soap and a nylon scrapper/scrubber works the best. Dry and re-season the skillet over heat after every use. The square shape helps to maximize space on a camp stove. The handle is a bit tricky to get on/off, but after the first time or two, you get the hang of it. The removable handle allows for more compact packing, which I find helpful. The pan is heavy, but nothing near the weight of cast iron.

After this is seasoned it’s awesome! Super easy to clean, the overall build quality is great. Super easy to use, removing the handle is a snap. Good heat distribution. We used it for a couple of weeks before going camping to really get it seasoned.

The heat distribution was bad. I only used this a few times because of how frustrating that is. It was easy to clean and it's a nice size; perfect for grilled cheeses.

I’m not really sure what I like best about this, it would have to be a tie between it being made of a lightweight carbon steel, or it having a detachable handle. I was worried at first that it would be difficult to use, but it is super easy, both to use and to clean. The detachable handle also makes it easy to store, and the tall side walls and spacious area make cooking an absolute breeze when using burners. Overall it’s such an awesome pan, I would definitely recommend it and get it again, knowing that it will last an extremely long time because of its quality and durability, it’s truly a valuable piece of camp equipment for our family!

I haven't really had a chance to put this to use yet - the detailed instructions for seasoning it for use will require me to put some time aside to do it properly. That being said, I do have some initial impressions to pass on.What initially attracted me to this griddle was the size and shape. I've used griddles in the past for cooking over campfires, etc, and they do have advantages over circular frying pans - there's more surface for cooking and fitting things like pancakes or toasted sandwiches on it. This griddle is square, which makes it a better fit for cooking on a two-burner camping stove without tying up both burners.The carbon steel griddle is heavy, though not as thick as a cast iron frying pan would be. It's still heavier than something you might want to use for backpacking. The detachable handle provides a secure grip, and the way it is angled up makes it a little easier to use where flames rising up from under the griddle might be a problem.The only issue I've had so far is that it is important to make sure the handle locks firmly in place; I was trying moving it around, and when I tried flipping it over, the handle came off because I hadn't quite gotten it locked onto the griddle. User error, not really a design problem - just something to be aware of.I'm looking forward to putting this to real use.UPDATE: I’ve tried cooking with it on a conventional electric stove top, and it worked fine. Keeping it seasoned properly to minimize sticking is going to take more practice based on my initial trials, but overall I am satisfied with it so far.

I keep it with me just in case, even on days where I don't plan to cook. I've used it my propane, butane, Isobutane, woodfires and electric sources. It's a good heavy griddle. Of course I love the detachable handle. For me though, it does have hot spots a lot and it's not a very good non-stick surface if at all. I see it is an Amazon's choice item since I ordered mine.
