I haven't read the other books in the series about the Sullivan family. This book was incredibly sad. I had to give up reading it as it troubled me so much emotionally. First the beautifully written love story between a young couple in World War I, but the ongoing consequences of it all was awful to take in, especially how dreadful the girl's father was to her and things he forced upon her. I would lie awake at night thinking of it!!!!

A Grand Finale
I can't give this book any less stars than the others in the series as I have enjoyed it immensely. I realise I have read all the books in this series , NOT in the correct order, but nevertheless the story of this family has been tied up beautifully. Although it is billed as the last one it would be nice to hear how Brigitte, James and Finn got on with their lives in the future.

More please!
I purchased the first book in this series having previously read and enjoyed Anne Bennett books and now having now read all four books in the Sullivan saga I do not want to leave the family, I would love to hear Kevin's story and I believe there are a lot more stories to be told concerning this extended family. Anne Bennett's characters come alive in all four books and I feel I know not only the family but also the places the books are set in, once started I could not put these down!

A good read and well researched
I enjoyed this book and will no doubt be reading some more of this author. I did not know it was part of a series but it can still be read separately. It goes from Ireland to France and then to Birmingham a city I was born in so can relate to Sutton Park and the area around. I will mention that I did have a feeling about how the end would turn out.

buy the series
Anne Bennett is a winner. The Child Left Behind, the last in the series about the Sullivan family from Buncrana In Ireland, kept me engrossed from beginning to end I enjoyed reading about the lives and loves of the Sullivan family members before, during and after the two world wars and would definitely recommend these books. :-)
