GRAUGEAR USB4 M.2 SSD Enclosure, 40Gbps NVMe SSD Enclosure with Built-in Cooling Fan and Dual-Pipe Heatsink Aluminum Case, Thunderbolt 4/3, ASM2464PD Chip

The drive is fast, faster than many other larger USB4 or TB4 enclosures. I’m using it with a Samsung 980 Pro M.2 2TB SSD. Plugged into my Mac Studio M2 Max I’m getting speeds of about 3.2GB/s write and 3GB/s read. It is extremely well made and the all aluminum case has a quality feel to it that is heavy for its size. The fan does make a highish-pitched hum if you’re close enough to it in a quiet room but not something you’d be bothered by in a normal environment. I do wish the fan didn’t run continuously though. I feel it would have been better if it came on only above a set temperature threshold or at least only came on when it was actively transferring data and off when sitting idle. Maybe for a v2? Otherwise a very nicely built, quality product with faster speeds than most. EDIT: After having this drive for a short time I realize that it has or developed the following problem. When I have it plugged into my Mac Studio and shut down normally and then start up again, the drive mounts on the desktop and can be used normally. But...I realized just recently that the fan does not turn back on automatically! Maybe that’s just a defect with mine but I didn’t realize this until I went to move it and it was VERY hot to the touch. That’s when I realized the fan wasn’t spinning. The blue light comes on but no fan. If I unplug it and then plug it back in, then the fan comes on. I checked that this was happing repeatedly and not just a one-time fluke so I’m sending it back and will look for another enclosure unfortunately as I don’t want to have to unplug/reconnect after every boot or restart.

A good, fast enclosure. We had several of these types in their previous generation, so I was comfortable recommending them to our customers for their upgrades. We installed the new Crucial T705 NVMe and attached it to a desktop running the new Z790 Gigabyte Master Motherboard computer we built for a client. This came back, and we added a Thunderbolt extension board to power this NVMe enclosure. With a correct TB4 cable, we could get 32 speeds consistently. I do hesitate to do this because adding a board to that PCIe slot has to share the lanes with the graphic card; this unit has an Asus Strix 4090, and the before/after difference was insignificant. While I have been recommending the AM boards since they don't have this PCIe limitation, I found with this installation, in reality, it makes very little difference.

Has connectivity issues on an Apple Silicone MacBook Pro--it keeps disconnecting from the Mac. Beautifully made and asy to install the SSD. Keeps the SSD cool.

I'm thoroughly impressed by its capabilities. The fast transfer speed allows swift and efficient data management. It's fully compatible with Thunderbolt 4/3 and offers backward compatibility with older USB standards, which is incredibly convenient. The fan is remarkably quiet, balancing cooling efficiency with noise reduction. Overall, this product works great for my device and would recommend to others!

I use this encloure to house a WD SN850x 4TB drive to serve as a backup drive for my PCs in the house, and a few extra Steam games. This enclosure allows that drive to hit about 1/2 of it's full speed of 7000ish MB/s. Drive stays very cool as well. Overall love the design. If one thing to nitpick, I wish it were toolless, and that the screws were a more standard drive (Philips, etc.) Nothing against Torx, but at that small size it can be tough to find a proper bit. Otherwise great product. Look to buy more from Graugear.

Just past the return date, the fan started to make a loud noise. Loud enough to hear from across the room. After speaking to Amazon customer service, they forwarded me to GRAUGEAR customer service. I told them what was wrong with the enclosure and they offered a refund or a replacement. I requested a replacement, hoping it was just defective. That was 10 days ago and they have yet to return any of my messages. With my previous issue with the USB-C cable, they offered me a refund which I accepted. Same thing happened, communication all of the sudden ended. I could look past defective items. It just happens. But when customer service is bad, that is what sours me from ever wanting to buy from the manufacturer again. I will not be buying anything from GRAURGEAR again Original Review: I've only had this for 2 days and the cable failed after the first day. It worked fine initially, then after shutting the computer down and coming back in the morning, my Mac wouldn't recognize the drive. I could tell that the enclosure was getting power cause the light was on and the fan was running, but macOS just wouldn't recognize the drive and it wouldn't show up on the HD list. After some time of restarts and shut downs, I decided to swap out the cable for a different one and it popped up on macOS. So far it works fine, just make sure you have an extra usb cable just in case the supplied one fails.

I had this sense may 2025 it was Low Noise . starting in December 2025 the noise got Louder ... January 2026 noise is horrible. I tried cleaning it made no difference. Still trying to find a replacement fan. Still trying to get information from the company about a replacement.

This unit provided advertised speeds for my ssd and the included cable is better then the 3rd party one I was using before. I never noticed any sound from the units fan. Hooked this up to an M3 MacBook Pro and a AMD 5800x powered PC running Windows 11. Both connected and ran without issue.

Solid build and speed is respectable with the 8 TB WD Black SN850x SSSD I put in it (2710.3 read & 2618.6 write). Runs cool as well. My only nit pick is that I can hear the fan. My room is pretty quiet and my M1 Max Mac Studio is absolutely silent - this is the only thing with a fan on my desk and I notice it. I may relocate it to my closet among with my thunder bay 8, but I'm wondering if it will still be cooler than my Acasis enclosures without the fan running... it seems to have a pretty robust passive cooling design.
