WOW! So much flavor!
I had to come on here and write a review after seeing so many negative remarks about he number of ingredients. SO, this is my take... Yes, there are lots of spices used. This is what makes the dishes so flavorful. I can find all of the spices here on Amazon or at my local grocer. And while some of them are not traditional American spices, trust me, they are worth trying. Sumac and Za'atar! Amazing. I gather all the ingredients on the counter (a trick my mom taught me) then measure out the spices into small bowls so they are ready to go. This small step makes most of the recipes fairly easy, quick, and low-stress to make.I love this cookbook! Am using it at least once a week and often 2-3 times a week.

Cookbook
The book is beautiful unfortunately had some kind of syrup type of spill on about half pages right on bottom outside corner. Thankfully they were not completely stuck to each other. So I separated and wiped them. Not going to bother sending back as it really didn't compromise book. Lovely pictures and recipes. Recommended.

Yummy recipes and authentic flavor
A cook book pretty enough for the counter. Lots of Mediterranean staples and some new ideas. They all look so good and I love the format of the cookbook.

Most dishes are VERY spicy
The book has a nice introduction, interesting to read. The recipes are not purely Mediterranean, however, in the way that many people think: Italian and Greek. These recipes are a serious fusion with middle-Eastern recipes, and some African twists as well. I have tried a few, and loved them. BUT, you have to invest in some new and unusual spices and such that you may never have heard of, like Sumac, and Ras el hanout, besides the tons of fresh herbs. The caution is that MANY of the recipes have a hot and spicy character. Even in the photos you can see most dishes slathered with spices. You can tone them down accordingly, of course. I only wish more authentically Italian and Greek recipes were featured. They are definitely in the minority. Regardless, I have every intention of trying more of the recipes. The two I tried already were great. But they were NOT fast, or easy. Lots of prep. The pan-seared red snapper was a lot of prep, and work, and time, and clean-up. It stated that you could use “any thin white fish fillets”, so I used cod. It fell completely apart when I served it, but yes, it tasted good. I made the berry compote, and paired it with brie and crusty bread, and it was delicious. Not too hard at all, that one. But overall, this is not a go-to book for quick dinners, or after a long day at work. And you need to go out with a list and find a number of things you never heard of before you get started.

Great cookbook to start on your Mediterranean journey
Got this cookbook (and its predecessor) for my wife, as she wanted to start eating healthier and felt looking at some Mediterranean recipes might be an interesting way to go. She has only had the book a short while, but has already filled it with bookmarks and dogeared pages, marking recipes tried and yet to try. Not having experienced too much of this kind of cooking, we are finding the flavors and recipe ideas a fun experience. Not everything has come out exactly the way we expected the first time, but overall we are really happy with the book. The recipes do call for a couple of exotic seasonings, but nothing that can't be found at prices consistent with everyday seasonings in good grocery stores or here, off Amazon. These are not super complicated recipes requiring tons of specialized skills, and the basic ingredients are familiar, easily obtainable ones (beans, common vegetables, fish, poultry, etc.) so anyone with some experience in the kitchen should be able to enjoy. Plus, the author gives some interesting background on the "Mediterranean diet" concept (being Egyptian, it's not a "diet" to her, its the way she was brought up) that should inspire readers to explore the flavors and recipes she shares. Very happy with the purchase and would recommend to others looking to add some adventure and healthy ingredients to their diet.
