Large bottle, good value
These are the instructions as printed on the bottleHow to use1 Clean article with a technical detergent.2 Spray evenly all over onto the damp, clean fabric3 Apply extra to areas regularly exposed to abrasion.4 Remove any excess with a clean cloth.5 Allow to dry naturally or Tumble dry if care label recommends**all purpose fabric waterproof is effective when dried naturally, however for best performance we recommend heat where possible.I thought I should make it clear that it's not just a case of spraying it onto the fabric you want to waterproof so not as easy to use as you would imagine.I tested this on my old fabric shoes, I only had a bit of tech wash left and used it on them. Washed and rinsed them and sprayed the waterproofer on.It went on easily but was very thin and watery so a lot of it ran off but I managed.I don't have a tumble dryer so I put the shoes on top of a towel on the radiator, a hairdryer could also be used. After they had dried, I sprayed the shoes with water, they seemed to repel the spray reasonably but wouldn't stand up to a dribble of water direct from the tap so I gave them another coat of spray.I went out in the shoes yesterday, it rained heavily while I was out and the waterproofing stood up well, no leaks through the uppers of my shoes at all.I haven't tried it on any garments yet as I have recently waterproofed them all but I will use this next time one needs doing.Four stars, good value for a large bottle and it sprays well and evenly up to now.

fabric waterproofer
Great product, used on my old waterproof coat. It does say you can air dry but if you apply heat (I used a hair dryer) It does help the product work better. It does leak a bit out of nozzle so just make sure it doesnt leak on anything as it can stain.I haven't tried on shoes yet but may give it a go on my trainers!

Water off a duck's back
The media could not be loaded. I do some challenging walks at least 2 times a year and sometimes it rains. That's pretty much a foregone conclusion in the UK. Waterproofing spray like this is useful to give your waterproof items an extra layer of protection in order to buy you some more time to stay dry.As shown in the video I took an unused fishing tackle bag and sprayed one side, it’s the side with the closing flap. I allowed this to dry and later I sprayed water on both sides. First, I sprayed the treated side and you can clearly see the water immediately starts to bead and does not soak in. The other side which was not treated just soaked up the water. This demonstration is good enough for me, if this was rain then the water would be running off rather than sitting on the garment or shoe and this means it's not sitting there soaking in.I shall be keeping this handy for those long-wet walks but I may also use it to waterproof the kids school shoes, the rain really east through those!

Appears to work well, and water beads rather than soaks in
This review is for a fabric waterproofer branded Ready Steady Defend. It is used to reapply a waterproofing layer to coats, bags and camping gear.I wanted to test this item on an old, but perfectly good warm winter coat that every time it rained, the water started to absorb into the coat's material due to its age.The instructions were clear, apart from the first step, as I was unsure what a "technical detergent" was, so we put the coat in the washing machine on a cycle compatible with the washing instructions of the coat. Then once finished, hung the coat, whilst still damp as per instructions, on a coathanger on the washing line, and sprayed the product on, and let it dry naturally. The product appears to have worked, as the rain now runs off the coat, rather than soak in, though its apparent I missed bits, like under the arms. I intend to reapply in certain areas, but will probably wear the coat whilst doing so, so I can ensure all areas are covered. We've not had any significant heavy rain in the last few days, so only tested in light showers, but I would expect heavy rain to bead off as well. There are no clues about how long this lasts, or if it needs reapplying next time its washed. More and better instructions would be beneficial, and something hopefully the manufacturer can address in the future. My bottle was fortunately supplied in a resealable bag, and had leaked a bit, so possibly better packaging needed as well, though the resealable bag did its job.
