My son loves this
My son likes to use this in our pool. The batter lasts awhile but could be better. The more you use it (as in the more things you do with it vs just driving it around), the quicker the battery dies. Considering the price, it could have a bit longer lasting battery.

Fun even in the bathtub
The toy automatically turns on when it detects that it's been placed into water and will light up. There is no separate power switch on the toy itself. The propellers will not function prior to the toy detecting that it's in water, and it will also automatically turn off once it's taken out of the water. It's decently fast, but not too fast that it can't be used in a bathtub. I'd say it does about 1ft/s. I don't think it's got enough speed to use in any body of water with a current though. The propellers are protected by grills on both sides so there's not much risk of it touching skin, but I would still be careful not to get any hair caught in there. I needed to clean up a bit of extra flashing in the back grill of the right nacelle to better balance the force from both propellers. With the design of the toy, I actually prefer to think of it as a spaceship putting around a 2D plane. The water cannon is also quite strong and pushes the toy backwards when it fires. I'm limited in my ability to test that without access to a pool, but I think it could do 5-6 yards easily. The toy is fully waterproof but is not intended to be submerged. Once forced under the water, water fills up air cavities inside that make it top heavy and flip upside down, although it will still float. It then needs to be picked up out of the water to have the water drain and it will then work properly again. The design favors stability going forward with its bow rising slightly and it goes straight with both propellers pushing forward. However it's less stable in reverse as the tilt causes the propellers to "dig in" to the water and then any minor lean is reinforced as the lower propeller sucks in more water, easily causing it to just spin in donuts if you keep both propellers going in reverse without modulating them. Interestingly, this does mean that it actually goes faster in reverse once both propellers go under the water. The battery retention mechanism is a bit weird as it has both screws and cam locks (denoted in the instructions as "battery cover manual knob") on the bottom. I was able to use it just fine with only the cam locks and not bothering with the screws, especially as it only comes with one set of screws between the two batteries, and transferring the screws would add to the hassle of using that method. I'm not sure why they bothered with screws at all with the cam locks seeming to be secure enough and much more convenient. They also missed a great opportunity to have the remote use the same rechargeable battery (ideally including a total of three in that case) which would've made things even more convenient. The AA battery compartment in the remote is already roughly the same size as the toy's batteries.

Self-driving boat makes for summertime fun
I got this for the amusement of a toddler and we found it to serve admirably. It's a bit too big for the water table, but in a bathtub it has a little breathing room, and in a hot tub or pool situation it truly shines. It's not really a submersible; it will float no matter what you do, and has two propellors which can be controlled individually; they are off by default and can go full forward or full reverse. If both are forward or reverse the boat zips speedily in that direction; if only one is forward, the boat makes a great sweeping turn, and if one is forward and the other reversed the boat will turn in place. But those aren't the money controls. The killer app is a button that causes a water gun to suck up water and shoot it forwards -- about 25 feet (8 meters). You can aim - with deadly accuracy - and my kids, at least, found this hilarious, squirting and shooting each other, me, Mom and whatever else was in range with great gusto. For total chaos, the boat has a demo mode where it will spin, drive around, and squirt, all apparently at random, although random seems to find Daddy's sunglasses more often than not. I quickly tired of this, but the boys did not, so I had to find a minimum safe distance. The battery life is good for about 20 minutes and it's easy and quick to charge it up. The remote takes 2 AA batteries, not included, and if I had one beef I'd note that it isn't really waterproof, but it's not a big deal as long as you don't drop it in the tub!

Pretty fun pool toy
Well I will say I had just as much fun with this remote control boat as my six year old granddaughter did. We have a pool so it’s a great toy to have because there lots of room for it to move around. My granddaughter had a little bit of a problem at first figuring out the remote. The controls are pretty sensitive and a lot of times the boat was just going in circles, she got a little frustrated at times. I wasn’t doing much better though. Once we got the hang of it we really had a lot of fun with it. The water feature was a nice addition, it just throws off a thin spray of water, nothing crazy. You do need two AA batteries for the remote but it does come with two rechargeable battery packs for the boat. There’s really not much to put together however, I had such a heck of a time getting the battery packs on and off. The two screws were so hard for me to get off and then to get them screwed back on. I’m assuming they make them a tight fit so that they don’t come off in the water and ruin the battery packs. It does come with a little screwdriver. So that’s all you have to do, get all the batteries installed and it’s ready to go.

Fun toy once you get the hang of it
My kiddo loves playing with this in our pool! It took him a while to get used to the remote controls and the steering, but once he got it down, he seemed to really like it. He loved that it sprayed water and was able to pretend he was playing military with it. Overall, great fun!

Remote Control Boat
This submarine boat is so fun for water play. My toddler really enjoys it. The light is so cool and allows kids to play make-believe. The remote control is simple and the battery life is great.
