Good quality net
I'm an (adult) organic farmer, so I try to trap bugs...but green June beetles are pretty bad in my area and don't fall for traps. I got this net so I could capture them while they fly around during the day--yes, there are that many. This net had a long enough handle that I could capture beetles flying by near my feet or over my head, so it has a nice length of handle. It withstood my intense use and capture of maybe 200 beetles without tear or snag. I didn't have time to be careful, so it probably got kid-worthy rough use yet it is still going strong. The long net bag allowed me to capture a beetle and easily keep it inside the net until I took it to the capture jar. So it's a good quality net in my experience.

One of the sturdier models out there, but wires can be pulled out of handle too easily
I like the longer pole, and it's a sturdy net, but one of the metal wires came out of the pole within a few weeks of fairly frequent use by my five year olds. The single phillips screw in the middle goes through the plastic piece and somehow is supposed to secure the wires in place. But there's no real resistance beyond the frisction to the screw head to actually pulling the wires out. So if you drop the net over something rigid and pull real hard, there's not much stopping you from pulling the wire out. I was able to back out the screw, reset the wire, and re-tighten it, but it is apt to come out again. That's the flaw in it, but after having tried a few other "kids" butterfly nets, this is actually one of the sturdier ones I've tried overall, with a good, deep net.

I teach at a nature center and use these frequently. The netting holds up really well. But the metal prongs that hold the ring to the handle pop out fairly easily. I had bought enough for a class size and more than half of them survived. Many of them I was able to duct tape into place. Some of the kids I get are pretty rough with them. Because the netting lasted longer than some of the other nets I have used, I did order these again. I just wish the rings were fixed to the handle in a better way so I didn't have to duct tape them back on!

Effective and easy to use
I have tried different butterfly nets for our family. This one is the best so far. We use it to catch white cabbage months which plague our garden every year. This one works the best.

No wooden handle
Pictured with wooden handle. Did not have a wooden handle. Cheap and flimsy.

The description listed for this product is completely wrong! ...
The description listed for this product is completely wrong! The hoop is just under 10 inches and that's about the only thing close to correct. The handle is ONLY 24 inches long and unlike the picture shows it is not made of wood, the handle is aluminum. The description says handle is 42 inches long, since I was ordering from a phone I wasn't able to scroll over the picture to see the package that states 25.5". The net is a decent size at 22" deep/long. Unfortunately the delivery went to my home and the kids saw it right away so the thought of returning it was out the window, and now I have 3 nets much smaller than other nets offered on Amazon for the same price and material. Disappointing!

Excellent!!
This butterfly net is top notch. My daughter has spend hours chasing and catching butterflies. the little bug holder that comse with it is the perfect size to carry about and collect and watch bugs/butterflies.

Good beginner nets.
For an inexpensive product, it seems to be working well so far. Wife and I are getting into butterfly identification to add to our birding experiences and these "starter" butterfly nets are helping. Two drawbacks: 1) I can see with repeated hard use, these may not hold up long; the metal ring holding the net and its connection to the single-piece handle seem somewhat flimsy >> so, if a rambunctious child were using them, then maybe not the best for them, but for those of us who can (usually) modulate our capturing technique, then these work well (for beginners) and should last a while. 2) it would be helpful if the net was made of a more transparent material or "thinner" construction to allow better visibility of what's captured inside. We can see the butterflies in the net, but it's hard to pick out details.

aluminum handle
I would have preferred the wooden handle in the photo, but I received one with an aluminium handle as well. However, it is sturdy and my daughter has been using it a lot. definitely a good investment for a critter-loving kid!

Not a wooden handle
The net seems durable enough.. we have yet to use it but I rated it as such because I bought this net specifically for the wooden handle. Every picture shows a wooden handle and yet when I received it, the handle is aluminum.

Expected as pictured
Purchased for my children to catch bugs, butterflies, frogs, or whatever their heart desired. I purchased this particular net (which was more expensive than others listed) because I believed the handle was wooden and it looked to have very little plastic (which is usually the first thing to break). I was very disappointed when it arrived as it had the same aluminium and plastic handle that all other nets had. It does have a nice long net with a close mesh. My children (4 of them aged 9 yrs down to 1 yr) all enjoy using it. It is very light weight and we often take it on our hikes. But I would have saved myself a few dollars and bought a cheaper one or a multi-pack for the same price.

I bought the butterfly net as a birthday gift for a six-year old girl who was delighted with it and finds it easy and light weight to use.I also bought her a companion book, "From Caterpillar to Butterfly," which helped her understand the life cycle of a butterfly. I'm giving myself a pat on the back for choosing a great educational gift that was warmly received.
