Positives: strong hinge can be used horizontally or vertically. I bought the horizontal hinge but switched my design to vertically. Definitely buy the proper hinge since the vertical hinge is stronger for the weight of a vertical Murphy bed. I like the sturdy feet at the end of the bed. Disassemble is easy by removing the ‘U’ shaped pin in the open bed position then closing the bed without both pins and sliding the bed frame out in this vertical position. Negatives: reassembly is tricky. Bring the bed frame to the vertical position, then in this vertical position slide the hinges one inside the other at the same time. ( 2 person job) now very slowly open the bed back down carefully as to not have the hinges slide out of position then align the hinge holes to accept the ‘U’ shaped pin on both side. This part needs a bit of persuasion. Once you see that the 2 holes are close to being aligned, insert pins and make sure they are completely in and flat to the hinge top ( I used a hammer to push the pins flat. To difficult to push with your hand only. This is important to prevent the pin from jumping out. Once the pins are completely in the hinge is secure. Other then that the hinges are great as long as your design and craftsmanship is good. PS: to find the position of the hinges in the unit I placed a 2x4 flat at the base of the unit and place the bed in a vertical position on it to give me rotation space then from the back of the unit I inserted a fully assembled hinge with pin and dry fitted it in position marked the top of the hinge on the bed frame and on the unit to find it’s final position when the bed is in a closed position. Then repeated the same thing on the other side using now the measurements of the dry fitted side. Then take each hinge apart (remove pin) and attach the spring part to the bed frame and the open part to the unit frame at your marked positions. Good luck!!
