More boom for your buck.
Your old boom box never sounded this good. This has an excellent mellow sound, strong bass, soft highs. I knew I needed this after watching the video review from Howard Abraham, and I have to agree with him that this likely has more bass than anything close to this price.I used a sound analyzer app on my phone to see the frequency response curve for this at the default equalizer setting. It is relatively flat from about 50 to 10,000 Hertz and rolls off at both ends, but it seems to drop off lower at the high end. Listening proves this out. I can clearly hear the string bass player pull his bow across his strings at 67 Hertz, but the highs for the other instruments is vey quiet. This sound will be pleasant and soothing to most listeners, not true Hi-Fi, but amazing for a $100 portable. The controls are intuitive to use, large with large easy to see markings, and a positive feel. The handle does not move, but is well placed and very sturdy. The whole unit is really solid. This is surprisingly thicker than I expected, real chunky. It has large soft rubber feet, and that’s good; because if you turn up the volume, you can really feel this thing vibrate. The radio is like all the other “scanner” radios I’ve encountered; picks up strong local stations well, but struggles with weak or distant ones. The micro SD card player works well, but I haven’t seen the ability to work with folders that some reviewers claim.I liked this so much, now I want to try the Avantree Boombyte!

outstanding sound
Bought this to have a portable FM radio with great sound quality. This is it! Excellent FM reception. Like the digital set up vs a dial. The 3 EQ modes are distinct and give options of "standard", "voice" (mid range) and "extra bass" (low frequency boost). Bluetooth works great and easy to pair with devices. FM reception so good that needed to turn up to volume to hear the bluetooth connections. Powerful audio.Really don't need to turn it up much in the house. The body is sturdy (and fairly heavy, which is a good thing) and love it that it is rechargable. No need to worry about alkaline batteries that can leak or finding an electrical outlet and tethered by the AC cord. The instruction book is fairly simple and without a lot of detail. Comes in a well padded box. HIghly recommend. (doesn't come with a remote but that is minor unless you really want one)

Perfect Sound; No Pairing with Other Speakers; Annoying Auto-Off
Love, love, love the sound on this small unit. The bass is at the perfect range where it doesn't hurt my inner ear, but I can feel it in my chest. So many modern speakers get this wrong.PLUSES:* AMAZING sound with perfect bass that cannot be topped. Comparable to a Sono Era 300 ($449) in quality.* Compact and portable.* Solid build quality you can feel in the controls and weight.NEGATIVES:* FM radio is not so great; feels tacked on. Just unnecessary.* I keep it plugged in and it shuts itself off continually on Bluetooth mode if it does not receive sound for more than a few minutes ... on AC power. The only way to turn it back on is to turn the volume knob all the way off and then back on. Which is beyond stupid and annoying. I have reached out to Avantree support about this and will update my review if I learn anything useful, but I checked the manual and see no option to change this setting.* Does NOT power off automatically when on Auxiliary mode and receiving sound via 3.5mm cable, but there is a lot of noise via this connection. I'm troubleshooting this presently.* Worst of all: it cannot be paired with additional Avantree speakers. This speaker's sound is so great I want to buy at least 3 more and pair them together. But Avantree won't let me give them all that money.

Rich sound, easy replacement
A good solid rich sound from this bluetooth unit allows me to enjoy music to a degree that the iPhone playing my music, cannot offer. I find myself carrying this radio/speaker into the kitchen or bathroom. The radio seems fine, too. The unit is heavy, no doubt due to magnets in the speakers (?). The handle is fixed, to prevent breaking the antenna. The battery lasts for days because I don't play it constantly. It recharges quickly. It's not going to win any beauty contests. The service is swift polite and no questions asked when I told them the bluetooth wasn't working. I soon had a new unit shipped free of charge or shipping, and a return label for sending back the old one in the same box. Very polite conversations with the charming and efficient Rosally at Avantree. All around I'm glad I chose this plain looking but top notch radio/speaker.

Great sound well worth its price
This thing packs quite a punch as far as sound goes. Very loud and strong bass for its small size. The FM radio works well and sound great. The bluetooth also sound great and connects fast. It also plays USB and micro SD cards, plus has AUX input jack. All inputs are balanced so that no input is louder than the rest, which for some reason is rare with portable devices like this, and I much appreciate that. You can control everything from the buttons on top, and has a rotary volume control, which is also nice. My only criticism is that on SD/USB player you cannot search inside a track, and also know that it does not show the track name on the display it just shows a number (and I havn't yet figured out how the number corresponds to the tracks?). But I'm still giving it 5 stars because this thing rocks, sounds fantastic, rechargeable, a nearly perfect portable radio that can easily travel with you. Oh but do remember, it's not waterproof so don't get it wet.
