A Rover's Story

My 9 year old loved this book. When we started reading it, he was a little on guard because he thought it was just like the Wild Robot books, which are also fantastic. I felt it was a journey through human emotions and an adventure through space. My son is eager to read more books about robots.

My daughter enjoyed this book and I think the reading level is appropriate for 8-10 year olds!

This is an amazing book that combines science and emotions cleverly and creatively. An amazing space-exploration middle grade that will appeal to all ages.We have different points of view, but the main character is a Rover based on the one on Mars (Perseverance which is collecting samples and sending us photos and that at this time (2023) still doesn't have an assured return schedule may or may to Earth, but maybe in the 2030s it will). The Rover in this novel is Resilience and the author humanized this machine and companions by giving them an understanding and learning capacity of feeling emotions, building relationships, unique personalities, and caring.It's adventurous and exciting, I couldn't stop reading and it made me want to learn and research all about the ones working there on Mars right now and NASA's efforts.At the same time, we get access to the life of a 12-year-old who corresponds to Rover (Res) as her daily journal sharing her struggles and joys, choices, changes in her life, and moments of sadness and bliss. The format is great.I've also listened to the audiobook after reading and the different narrators are a great choice for the characters.

As soon as I picked up this book from the library I couldn’t stop reading it. I read this everyday. The way how the author describes Res as a Mars Rover and a rover with human like feelings in such detail. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone!

Reading for our upper elementary book club to discuss with students, but this is a book that resonates with adults and children alike. Adults who remember the heyday of Mars Rover missions will find it especially nostalgic.Res is a Mars rover that we meet before launch when his consciousness is first developing. We experience the preparations for, journey to and exploration of Mars through his eyes as he develops self-determination along with emotions throughout his existence.Sophie is the daughter of one of the primary engineers responsible for coding, building and working with Res during his mission.Told in duet, we journey with both characters through time and space over a period of over 20 years. Res reports his experiences and thoughts to us directly while Sophie’s narration is told through a series of letters she writes to Res, starting in middle school.I read this as an audiobook and highly recommend the format. The narration was on point. I cried while listening during my daily dog walk.

It’s a great book for reading over the summer. I really enjoyed the book about a Mars Rover who somehow developed a slight amount of human emotion. I really recommend this book for people who want a heartwarming story with hard work and determination with great characters. I am personally a twelve year old student going into 7th grade this year. I got this book for summer reading. I recommend this book for you.

This exciting journey to Mars explores human emotions through the eyes of a Range Rover. When I first read about the book, it seemed like a tall task to make the rover human-like and to do it well. But this is exactly what Warga did and the result is real and honest. It is relatable and will make you smile and want to cry. I will definitely be adding this book to my home library!

My son found this at the library and read it over and over. Got to the last page and just went back to the beginning on repeat. I finally bought this so we can return the library’s copy.

Great book!! Will be using with my Gr.7 class this year. Deals with many concepts including teamwork, determination, resilience, friendships and communication.

My Granddaughter loved this book and rated it a 10/10
