What a book. What a story.
What a book, what a story. I always suspected that Randy Blythe had a rare way with words and was a pretty decent human being, but the wonderful writing in his story about his incarceration after the tragic death of a young heavy metal fan completely knocked me for six.The description of his time in the horrific Ratsvac prison in Prague, where the Nazis had a killing factory, makes for fabulous reading. He is a moderately well known rock star (even though he hates that term) cast adrift in an alien environment and accused of a crime that he doesn't even know if he has committed. Randy emerges from his imprisonment and trial with his integrity and humanity intact and a wonderful story to tell. Not exclusively for metal heads or Lamb of God fans , this book reads like a modern day Midnight Express or Shawshank Redemption and it would be a truly heartless reader who didn't feel uplifted by reading it.When Randy finally gives up screaming and leaping about in front of thousands of moshing music fans in huge arenas and rock festivals all over the world he will have a great second career as an author to look forward to. Highly recommended read.

Deeply emotional and eloquently delivered
This is not your standard ‘rock god’ book – it’s a deeply emotional story that is eloquently delivered that keeps you hooked. The circumstances that led to the existence of this book are sad and as a fan/appreciator of lamb of god, I was curious to read of Randy’s incarceration and trial.I’m not your typical metalhead – I work in digital marketing for a living, don’t have any tattoos or piercings. Perhaps that’s why I was also so curious to understand how Randy’s character has changed (or been re-revealed?) over the last few years. Even though our backgrounds are entirely different, I feel like his creativity and intellectual conquests make us similar.Hope to see him in London sometime. However, thanks to this book, I will not be prying to dig up old memories of Pankrác Prison. That chapter is over now - perhaps a novel next? You have a willing (semi-professional) proof reader!

An excellent read ...
... but a bit overlong. Randy tends to draw out every thing he tries to say. Sometimes to the point of distraction. Not sure any editing was done at all on this work and it needed it. At over 400 pages it is far too long for the subject matter at hand. Although, I feel he was treating this as a philosophical exercise more than anything else. A great read, a very eloquent writer ... but way too long.

Having read a few 'rock-star autobiographies' this book is a breath of fresh air - an interesting and personable guy in a very extreme situation. He is a man who is working to overcome his addiction demons, and realises he needs to face the challenge (of potentially killing a fan and being jailed in a foreign country) with the same honesty and integrity that got him past his alcohol use. This book is a journey through his own, self imposed, rehabilitation in the harshest of circumstance. I am a fan of his music, but ultimately that is not important. This is more of a diary about how to keep your head straight when under extreme pressure. Inspiring.

Page Turner
Buy it you won't be disappointed! Proper page Turner, stalling the very ending because I don't want it to end! Brilliant book, so well written he's thoroughly researched so many things, backing up what he's saying all. Very serious, and funny moments, he Deffo takes you on a journey with him in this book. I also like his opinions on the alcoholics minds, and how it is to sit at the sober end of life. Buy the darn book already! Applause to Mr blythe

Amazing first book from Randy.
I read this book in less than a day, i just couldn't put it down. It's not a pity party he wrote about how hard he had it in prison and during his trial, there is some very sad passages here from his life but he never makes you feel sorry for him- its a true, brutally honest account of what happened including tidbits from his touring days, alcoholism, and personal life with some good points to ponder over. Recommended for all lamb of god/metal fans but also to those who aren't- this isn't your typical 'rockstar biography' prattling about snorting coke of groupies t*ts or whatever, this is a very genuine and unique book to read.
