Version 12 is as good as version 8
Gone from version 8 to 12, because version 12 works on Windows 10. Only loaded PowerDirector on my new laptop as I find most of the bundled add-ons are surplus to requirements. Version 12 is as good as version 8, but I miss being able to enlarge the preview screen to a larger size, as I could on Version 8.Cyberlink seem to think adding more transitions and effects is the way forward, but I would say they need to concentrate more on the basics-------a straightforward titler would be a more useful addition! All in all, it's a good editing program, which I can recommend.

It's versatile but....
I looked long and hard for the right video editing suite. There are lots of cheap ones - OK for basic home movies. There are hugely expensive ones - outside my budget. It came down to this and lightworks. The latter is free, but you have to pay a monthly subscription for the better version. Furthermore it is incredibly complex and there is no manual. So after trying both products I went for this. It does everything I wanted along with some naff stuff that I didn't. Movie editing is easy and you can correct problems within reason, such as shaky video or poor lighting. So far so good. I am not sure about the add-ons. I found audio director hopeless and prefer to edit in audacity and drop the sound in. Still, overall worth the price I thought. There is one big BUT though - the program is horrendously unstable. It crashes for no reason about every 30-60 mins. The amount of work lost depends on when you last saved. This is frustrating to say the least and for a product that costs this much, it really shouldn't happen. The crashes don't occur when you run the trial, probably because you don't have access to all the features. I haven't used anything special such as 3D, so it's not that that's causing it. I haven't got as far as actually trying to create a disc yet.....so they may be problems I haven't discovered yet. Buy this product with caution.

Be vary wary
This is a warning about the problems I have had with PowerDirector 11, Ultimate suite.I have finally kicked it into touch. There have been too many problems to list.I did try the "free" version. The snag is the free version does not let you use the 3D editing facilities without buying the full version. I did buy.WHAT A WASTE OF £150!(If you buy through Top Casback don't expect a quick (or any) payout) Not the fault of Top Cashback, though. The programme was installed on a brand new computer. New motherboard, i7 processor, 16g memory and a new graphics card.No other software loaded other than PowerDirector and Power to Go 8 installed. If I enter all the unedited video onto the timeline (1.6 hours) and select to show the SVRT information, with the video from a Sony HDR-TD20VE, it shows the a few bits of video would need rendering. I removed these from the timeline and set the programme to create a 3D Blu Ray disk. This it would do.I then tried editing the video with the only transition used being fades. Edited video is 36 mins. long.It then fails to either create a 3D disc or to do a "produce" file. The programe has a tendency to crash several times within an hour.I soon learnt to change the automatic save to 2 mins.I have even done several complete reloads of Windows 7, the motherboard drivers and Cyberlik crap. (AND I MEAN SEVERAL RELOADS.) And obviously several editing sessions.Every time I have tried to do an edited video it has failed. At different places in the video. This is when trying to do a Blu Ray 3D disk or trying to do a "produce" file.If you think I am quick to criticise, I have been tring to get this program to work since the beginning of August. I am retired so the humber of hours spent on this runs into the hundreds. For £100 pounds I can upgrade to version 12. I wouldn't give 12p to upgrade.I shall go back to 2d using PinnaclE DV500 which I had used for years without any problems. If anyone knows a good reliable 3D editing program I would love to hear about it.If you fancy trying Power Director 12 I wish you all the luck in the world. I think you will need it.
