Smooth as a polished stone, with beautiful grain patterns, these pendants are unusual and special. The wearing of a talisman in the shape of an eye is said to be a ward against the malignancies caused by the Evil Eye. The Evil Eye is encountered in many cultures and brings misfortune or illness to those on whom it has been cast by an envious or covetous other. This person might not necessarily be evil themselves but it is their greed and longing that bring the curse. The belief supposedly originated in ancient Sumer and has spread throughout Europe, India and the Middle East but is apparently absent in oriental cultures. In Hebrew it is known "asayin ha'ra", in Italian, "mal occhio" and in Spanish "mal ojo" or simply "el ojo". This piece has been cut from pale Birch, and fitted with a brown Wych Elm iris and finally a pupil of Larch. The Larch has been treated with a homemade dye to render it as black as ebony. I supply the pendant in the following ways as standard, however you have some customisation options (please see below and photos for details): • On its own with no necklace • With a 16" sterling silver diamond cut curb chain. • On a 16" black leather cord with a handmade silver clasp. The cords can be supplied at any length you desire, just leave me a note. I also have brown cord and a choice of bronze or copper for the clasp and bail loop on the pendant, if you would rather any of these options please leave me a note with your order or send me a conversation. All of the wood used has come from healthy wind-blown branches found across Scotland and has not been milled commercially. Only hand tools were used in the manufacturing process. Due to the nature of the grain patterns in wood and because every item is hand made and judged by eye, all of The Conker Tree's pieces are completely unique.
