These Have Worked GREAT for Hydroponic Lettuce
I just ordered another set of these Kratky Method Hydroponic Planters. I got a set from another company in Fall, 2024 and started doing hydroponic lettuce. I've had lettuce all winter! I'm hooked on hydroponics!! What I can say about these pots is that they are very well made, a very tough plastic for the pot and the lid. These should really last forever. The holder for the grow sponges is molded right into the cover, so there are no "extra" parts to break or lose. The kit comes with instructions, but I also recommend looking on-line for information on the Kratky Method, so that you have a really good understanding of the concept. It also includes grow sponges. You will need your own seeds, fertilizer solution, and of course lights. You really cannot grow successfully by a window or with inadequate lighting. The pots are also colorful and fun! See the pic's for a shot of the pots in the sun. And to see the pots in action, see the pic of my lettuce under the grow lights. This is an easy 5 Stars for me - and would I buy them again? - Yes, because I did! ;-) =================================================== Then just a little about growing hydroponic lettuce. I am finding that 8 plants produce enough lettuce for my wife and me for a few salads each week. That is just what we wanted. So, the reason that I ordered another set of 8 is that when your first set of 8 plants start to bolt, you'll want started plants to replace them, so that you have a pretty much uninterrupted supply of lettuce. The plants that I started on 11/20 are just starting to bolt on 2/24, so I got about 3 months out of a plant. My plan will be to start another set of 8 plants after about 2 months and in a month, they will be producing and I can use those to start replacing ones that bolt.

Nice product
I was very pleased with this item, had a lot of fresh salads this past winter.

Great starter set
Thick, dark black, and secure lids. I would have liked the cup to have a bottom rather than free flowing, but I'll just change plans a little. These are worth it. They are small at around 5" high so work as great starters or short rooted plants. There are no drainage holes, but those are easy to add if you need them.

So far so good. First time doing Kratky gardening. Trying to grow a variety of herbs from seed. Some product enhancement ideas: because they’re opaque, it’s difficult to tell the water level and whether the grow sponges are touching the water or not when you refill. It would be great if they had a 500ml fill line on the inside. Instead, I marked 500, 1000, 1500, and 2000ml on the empty jug I use to mix my nutrients and water. Not as cheap as reusing / upcycling empty jars, but they look great and feel sturdy. The black lids with built in grow sponge holder are nice. UPDATE: had these for a few months and really like them. I highly recommend getting an EC and pH meter. My municipal water is really alkaline with a high EC and when I added the recommended amount of nutrients it was too concentrated and nothing would grow. Got water and nutrients sorted out and now I have fresh herbs all the time!

I like these but for some reason they easily grow mold... I use the same seed pods in these and my large hydroponic system but only these grow nastiness in them. Change out the water every week

I like this better than a mason jar
For a basic kratky starter kit, this is excellent. I have mason jars that I've used, but the lids often have to be twisted off. The lids on these easily snap on and off, but remain sturdy so there are no concerns about them accidentally coming off during use. I prefer to use Aerogarden like growing pods, since I have so many and cannot use clay, so I'm happy that they fit in them. The price might seem a bit higher, but I spent more on mason jars and lids than I did on these so the price is good overall. These will function a bit better than mason jars as they will block out the light better and I won't have to hand clean any baskets. Overall, very happy and want to buy more.

Good Purchase
Excellent service and product. Seems as if it will work well in the Kratky method of hydroponics, but only time and a myriad of other factors would determine. I'm perfectly happy with what I purchased. For me, buy with confidence.

Very happy with this product.
Was just what I wanted to grow herbs. Good sturdy pot and the black keeps the sun light away from the root so no green algae. Very happy with this product.

These are sturdy containers with lids that have an opening that can hold a grow sponge. Clever design and simple. The sponge was quick to soak, just 1 minute, and fitted within the lid's hole perfectly. I added 500ml of nutrients to the container, popped in two seeds to the sponge and covered with a clear, 2oz to-go container as a humidity dome (from the dollar store). Easiest, simplest set-up that I've used yet. I'll post another feedback when I've sprouted, grown and harvested my lettuce.

I like them but concerned if they are large enough for lettuce. I had in my mind they were a bit larger. They hold 750ml

Best bang for Buck on market. At current price point of 30.95 for the set of 8, works out to be just under 4.00 per bucket and lid. That’s cheaper (and stronger plastic) than what I found at dollar store. Bought 4 sets so I can grow herbs to give out as gifts to visitors. Aerogarden nutrients: 3x buckets is equivalent of one aerogarden harvest (6 pod) water/nutrients. I keep a small container marked and then add my two capfuls of nutes. Works like a charm. Taller herbs I change out water every 10 days or so; you could grow dwarf toms but you’d want string to secure everything to something to keep pot from tipping. I wouldn’t though - you’d be refilling water every 3 days during fruiting cycle lol

Absolutely love these little Kratky containers. When I originally purchased, for some reason I thought it was a pack of 4. So I was pleasantly surprised when they arrived and turned out to be a pack of 8! I washed them all out and started my seeds right away (01/22/24) and each container is already starting to sprout (01/25/24) I have planted different herbs in each bucket/pot and have them sitting under a grow light to get them started. Once they've been established, I will move them to the window. I love that they aren't just a boring pot. They're actually nice to look at and I don't mind having them on display. I'm more into the Aerogardens, but thought this would be nice and easy for my herbs and I can grow more tomatoes/peppers/fruit in my larger Aerogardens. Will update once I'm further along the growing process. So far, I'm super happy.
