Formatt-Hitech 77mm Firecrest SuperSlim Stackable Circular Polariser Filter

Excellent filter. While it is expensive (or overpriced by these brands for their products), the benefits for a serious landscape photographer is fantastic with opportunities to use with other filters and indeed other lenses. I do have a Hoya Pro-1, which is also very impressive, but I prefer the firecrest as it allows me flexibility to use with other lenses and filters from the firecrest range.. It has to be bought with a filter holder ring, which can cause shadowing in the corners when using 24mm focal lenth on full frame, but that is due to laws of physics more then anything. So, I use 28mm onwards, which is fine for most application, but unfortunately means I cannot use my ultra wide angle lens with my set up . Only criticism is that the design of ultra slim can make it a fiddly to use and prone to getting stuck. This can be frustrating considering the price of the product paid. The customer service from Formatt Hitech were fantastic and very helpful indeed, who kindly offered to remove my stuck filter. When I posted it off, they removed it with a lot of difficulty and believe I had a defective filter. They kindly replaced it. I am not sure I would have received this level of service from another brand. Thank you Formatt Hitech! While the filter does get stuck time to time due to the design, I have managed to keep the filter ring lubricated so I can remove in the field when using. I have taken some great shots (attached example). I really like Formatt Hitech Firecrest filters which causes no colour castes, and all my collections of filters are from this brand. I did not go for other well known brands due to colour caste issues, and I am pleased to report Formatt Hitech Firecrest filters are completely colour neutral. The Formatt Hitech customer service is outstanding, and always available to answer my questions and resolve any issues/problems . Attached is a image taken with firecrest polariser, firecrest neutral density filter 10 stop and 2 stop soft grad filter, with no post processing. Results are excellent and yes, expensive, but you get your money's worth with quality performance. Also, I bought this when Amazon had an excellent favourable offer, which made it more affordable, so do watch out for a deal. I can highly recommend.

EXCELLENT filter. Well made product which produces GREAT results. I had heard about these filters from a guy on a photoshoot so decided to try it. All i can say is im now a die hard customer for life!The quality and technology you get from this brand is just ground breaking. I love there stuff,, innovation, and there customer service is top notch. They say you get what you pay for, and with this brand you get WAAAAY more. If you have not joined the Hitech revolution, join now. Best of its class.

i knew what i was buying, firecrest are superb, no colour cast, high quality smooth none tacky glass with a high quality screw mount frame. but what sealed the 5* for me was the price, I paid thirty six quid for the sixt two milimeter CP filter, which from experience im pretty sure is a bargain, i'm normally quite happy with hoya or basic end b+w, firecrest are normally in my opinion priced well into the premium bracket.

Tested the coated version back to back with the latest Hoya HD CPL and this comes out very favourably, less colour cast and more natural looking skies.. Holding the two filters side by side I reckon the Hitech has better light transmission and less of a brown colour cast. Delivery came in a square plastic case so was quickly swapped to a Schneider Optics single filter padded pouch for daily carry. Filter is threaded so can be stacked if required, however the Superslim stackable is at least 1mm taller than the Hoya HD so if you plan to use this filter on a wide angle lens then you are going to get vignetting if shooting wide open apertureAs ever, you do pay extra for that little kick in performance, bang for buck go for the Hoya HD and don't worry about it. If quality, less colour cast and excellent light transmission is important then get this one

Have only used this for a few days during a recent holiday. First impression are very positive, the filter appears to be well made & easy to use.

Bought for me yesterday for a crazy good price on Amazon and arrived today. So far really pleased with it. My previous CPL was a Lee Landscape (excellent), but moving from a 100mm system to 85mm I needed another to fit. Can't say if the Firecrest is better than the Lee yet, but definitely as good in my opinion from the limited testing I've done. Just a quick heads up - mine didn't say Firecrest on it. So I called Hitech to make sure it was genuine and straight away they asked if it was the Ultraslim (it is) and told me they are unmarked. Panic over and a very happy customer.
