Fabulous film about the miners brass band in Yorkshire in the early 1990s

The film is a good few years old now but I had never seen it. Some of my favourite actors appear and the film doesn’t disappoint

The solo of “orange juice “ is sublime , film funny, tragic and shows how the miners were sold down the line .

Much more drama than comedy, the script is nonetheless finely tuned and effective. It is a real tearjerker in places, with shocking events later on.Great acting and music - the result is a beautifully made classic. My one qualm is the hard left point of view it seems to endorse late in the film - the view that the pits should never have closed. It does this by giving a character with this view the last word on it. I've seen ex-miners say they didn't want their sons or grandsons to have the same working life as they did, and I think its important not to romanticise the mines. The film, however, does a great job of portraying the community life of the mining town and how it was to be dismantled by pit closures.

Not to be missed. A moving story with a great cast including Pete Postlewaite (RIP)

I never tire of this film. I grew up not far from where this was filmed in the time it was set. It evokes so many memories of the time when the pits were closing. It conveys the emotions and struggles after the miners strike. Some very poignant moments which have me in tears every time..

Ein wirklicher Kultfilm aus England.Eine lokale Blaskapelle ( "brass band" ) die um ihren Fortbestand kämpft, als Hintergrund für eigentl. noch viel mehr, was um ihre Mitglieder herum gerade geschieht:In einer traditionell vom Bergbau geprägten, "rau-aber-herzlichen" Region schlägt der Struktur-Wandel unaufhaltsam zu - immer mehr Zechen müssen schließen, welches um sich greifende Existenzangst, Desillusionierung und schleichenden Selbstwertverlust mit sich bringt. So wird die örtliche Bergmannskapelle mehr und mehr zu einem letzt-verbliebenen sozialen "Anker" ihrer tapferen Mitglieder. Allen voran ihr passionierter Anführer Danny, der sich - mit seiner Leidenschaft für die Musik und für seine ( Lebens- ) Aufgabe - einfach nicht unterkriegen lassen will. Und nun steht schließlich auch noch ein Konzert an, dass das wohl allerwichtigste in der Geschichte der Band zu werden verspricht...Eine tolle, ergreifende Story mit sozialkritischem Einschlag - wirklich herausragend gute, "authentische" Schauspiel-Leistungen ( allen voran ein großartiger Pete Postlethwaite als "Danny" ) - noch garniert mit einer kleinen Romanze am Rande - ein sehenswerter moderner Klassiker!

Have always loved this movie, and even been to see the actual band in concert.

Presque 20 ans avant le chef d'œuvre "Pride", les Virtuoses (titre français) sont un des piliers de la "comédie sociale" britannique : l'horreur de l'ère Thatcher dans une communauté minière portée par sa grandiose fanfare : on rit beaucoup, on pleure, on est en colère comme dans les meilleures comédies anglaises et italiennes. Et comme dans Pride, The Full monty, Billy Elliot, on en sort ébloui par des comédiens qui crèvent l'écran, seconds rôles comme premiers rôles, et regonflé par l'espérance. A voir, revoir, offrir et partager absolument !Quelques répliques inoubliables : "vous êtes ... un mineur ? Oui, je suis bien un mineure, vous savez : les dinosaures, les dodos, les mineurs...""Et Dieu, il prend John Lennon, il prends ces 3 jeunes gars au fond de la mine, il veut même me prendre mon père (mourant à l'hôpital). Et Margaret Thatcher est encore en vie ! Mais, à quel jeu de con il joue ??"

es una pelicula que tantopor su argumento como por su musica sale un poco de lo normal y cuando la vi por primera vez me encanto de aqui viene que ek otro dia al pensar en ella me puse a buscarla y al ver que la teniais la adquiri y al volverla a ver he disfrutado como la primera vez gracias
