I love these... Mainly because it's way less of a mess than soil.... castings....coco... perlight... etc. I highly recommend them if your on the fence or a first time buyer..

I love rockwool cubes because they are super easy to grow in and there's no mess.

These are nice wool squares, however, for the application I bought them for ( setting in clay pebbles in a hydroponic system) there is to much difference between the clay pebbles and wool. Of course the clay doesn't retain any water/ nutrients, as the wool cubes holds too much and was prone to causing root rot in the cubes.Decent product, just not good for my application. I did move some of the plants in the cubes to soil and they seemed to work better in either soil or Coco.

OK. I’m not a commercial grower. Just an avid home gardener. So, my review is based on what I expect from a product used in my home. I will be using these big cubes to start my elephant ear bulbs in about another month. Last year I had seven or eight bulbs combined in a 10 gallon cloth pot but it was hard to keep consistent moisture in the pot. The bulbs need a moist, not wet, environment to prevent rot. Hopefully these will allow more control for moisture and they are made to help develop a sturdy root system. I think these will be perfect for my intended use.I opened the box and read that goggles and gloves are needed when handling the cubes. The material is mineral wool, and, if you’ve worked with insulation you might know that if it gets onto your skin you will itch. I’m not saying this is insulation, just comparing the two. I read the safety sheet that is available on their web site. There are no dangerous chemicals in the material, so the cubes are not toxic or anything dangerous. They just might make a person itch and you wouldn’t want the fibers to accidentally get in your eyes or your lungs. Anyway, I have gloves, goggles, disposable lab coats. I’m good, but I’m stating it for others that might not have PPE. I have to credit the company for including the QR code on the individual cubes that links directly to the safety sheet. That was a time saver and a considerate step for the convenience of the consumer.Edit. All the elephant ear bulbs sprouted up nicely in these. The blocks absorbed water and dispersed it evenly throughout the cube and I was even able to root some Ivy around the perimeter. The roots look thick and healthy. I will be ordering these again for next season, and might buy some for other bulbs I want to get a head start on, like cannas. I plan on planting the whole cube this summer and then, when I dig up the bulbs this fall, I’ll dispose of the cubes at our household waste recycle plant.

I have six of these fitted into the bottom of a plastic tub, under a grow light, with the intention of growing some smaller vegetables in the house during the colder months. The blocks are grooved underneath to channel excess water. I have a number of seeds planted in these, and after ten days I now have dwarf bush beans well up and looking as if they will survive. Their roots should not impinge on the neighboring blocks' plants, as each block is individually wrapped on all sides (except the top and bottom, of course). I have high hopes for these providing a stable base for all my seedlings and, ultimately, my full-grown plants. I have had good success in the past with the small rock-wool blocks, but always had to transplant them on. I am thinking that if I am careful with the nutrient solution, these just-sprouted plants will live their complete life-cycle in these large blocks. [I will update this review in a few months.]I had never seen blocks of this size before, or I certainly would have purchased some.EDIT MARCH 22: I have two of the blocks with dwarf stringbeans growing in them (the plants are flowering now) and two with poblano peppers (growing slowly, but growing). The other two have a basil plant and a dwarf tomato plant. These are also growing slowly. I have had minimal trouble with algae on some of the blocks, but it's my own fault as I watered the blocks from above rather than below. Those I did water only from below have almost no algae. All the plants look good!
